(I was a good girl and looked for a thread like this and didn't find one...If this doesn't belong here, please tell me)
Goths on a Budget
So...There are a number of us who are students, have parents, or otherwise have a need to be thrifty. This thread will (hopefully) give ideas and alternatives to higher-priced wear. Include clothing, accessories, and home decor in your posts, and please include a picture. Don't be afraid to include mainstream stores, specialty stores, online stores, anything! Have fun with this!
Also: Do you think investing in a sewing machine will eventually save more money than merely purchasing everything? If you are the type to make your own clothing, would you mind posting patterns?

GilAskan Rellik San Whoa whoa whoa... Now lets back up here... just a second. Now maybe I missed a memo or something, but when the hell has plaid been the realm of goths, last time I checked it was the realm of Lumberjacks, Rednecks and Grunge Fans. I've seen plaid done well on goths before, though, it can only be an accent. I saw a very handsome black Victorian-goth suit with a dark-green and blue plaid vest. I've also seen numerous goth takes on traditional Scottish outfits. Thanks. Your posts always make me smile.

GilAskan Rellik San I thought that pattern was tartan not plaid. I know that in America, the two terms are interchangable. Being from a Scottish family, I know that there is a difference, but not a massive one. Ultimately, they both have similar end-looks.
I always applied plaid to refer to shirts and jackets and tartan to everything else, the main difference is the plaid is two grids laid on top of one another, with tartan they are offset from one another.

Keep in mind I go for the mall goth type look,so if you are more of a victorian goth this may not be very useful.
thrift stores for sure, you can find almost anything usable there. also,if you have a craft store near you, many of them sell pyramid studs, which are useful.
#1 resource: around halloween in thrift shops.they sell the best and cheapest things useable for goth apparel aswell as things to use in your room or house. last halloween I got a black robe that was supposed to be for a grim reaper costume. It looks quite victorian and its good for a light house coat aswell.
and yes tartan and plaid look good too,I have a red kilt I wear on top of a pair of regular black jeans, add some chains and it looks very punk, not so goth though.
I got about $60.00 dollars(canadian) for Xmas,so I may go and spend some of that at my local thrift shop.
HERES A SMALL LIST OF ACCESORIES YOU CAN FIND ANYWHERE: -suspeneders,they look excelent, and you can wear them like regular,or wear them down like straps. -studded belts, which you can find anywheremand they look ultra cool. -jell bracelets,or as also commonly know "sex bracelets",a mixture of colours look cool, and you can get alot of them for $1.00 -and many, many more.just keep your eye out.
