I know that you're already speaking to your doctor about the risks associated with any weight loss surgery. Have you discussed lap-band technology? It's far less drastic than gastric bypass, but accomplishes the same goal -- for less cost, less risk of dying during the procedure, and it's both adjustable (if it's not working or if it's working too fast and you're nutritionally starving even though you don't feel hungry) and reversible in the event that you later decide you'd like to have a baby or to reverse the surgery for any reason.
I talked to my doctor about weight loss surgery. She said that of all of them, she would recommend lap-band over the others. However, for insurance purposes, I had to join a weight loss program and stick with it for six months just to prove to the insurance company that it didn't work and I did need a weight loss surgery. Lo and behold, I joined Weight Watchers, and have lost enough weight that I am no longer in any danger for my health. I was trying to prove that it didn't work, and it DID work, once I found a plan that was healthy, didn't restrict my choices of WHAT to eat (only how much of it I could eat), and gave me results.
If you've already gone this route and are past this stage, then I wish you great luck with weight loss surgery, of whatever type you and your doctor decide is right for you. Here's to your health!

I agree. Talk to your doctor about the lap-band surgery. I've never thought of taking drastic measures (I've never been more than 20lbs overweight, though) but quite a few of my family members have had weight loss surgery, and all of them did the lap-band over the gastric bypass.
And about the insurance stuff: they will more than likely tell you what they told Divash. You'll probably have to join a program and start a balanced diet to show them there is no other way for you, and a lot of people who try before getting surgery fail just because they're so set on getting the surgery, that they subconsciously purposefully fail. I'm not saying you will too.. but really, you need to get really strict with yourself if you feel that your life is in danger because of your weight. I'm sure you can succeed without the surgery. heart
