despite the intervening years, this does still happen to me. Last year when I was 20, a woman asked how old I was and laughed in my face when I answered. :/

so clearly cutting my hair didn't help any.

This happens to me very often. My poor boyfriend always gets looked at like a *****, since he already looks older for his age. When I went to Orlando for a vacation I took a tram to get some place from our hotel. I climbed on and was about to give the man money, but he shook his head and said "Don't worry, children under 12 ride free!" I was 17. lololol

I'm so relieved that I'm not the only lolita who experiences this. I have a chubbier face, short (5'2), and have a high-pitched voice. I never really thought about how young I appear at first glance until I met my older sister's boyfriend who thought I was a middle school-er or freshman in high school. I'm 17 years old... I don't feel particularly upset by this realization, but the fact that I am "perceived" by other people urks me. I try to avoid thinking about how many people judge me based on my appearance. Although, I can't help but feel curious about that very judgment, but that's probably my anxiety talking. 4laugh
