Bastemhet Wrath of Ezekiel Anyone would like to re-cap their Summerstar experience with the rest of us who can't make it to an event like that? I'm still iffy on the "Toronto Pagan Pride Day" that's occurring in a week and a half. I can feel the fluffy. If you like camping, it's awesome. It's more camping than pagany stuff. The people are polite. It's probably 85% Wiccans or (fluffy) neopagans, and then there are a few Asatru that were pretty cool. You go more for the people you'll be with than to "learn stuff." There are a few little workshops here and there. It definitely wasn't anything like Pantheacon where it was workshop after workshop. There were only a couple of vendors but I found some really good stuff, actually. I had an amazing time because I hung out with Gho and Tea. I'm not that big of a fan of camping, though. lol I was mosquito bitten like crazy and I'm allergic to mosquito bites. So, yeah, camping = no. The camping part was not like you're in a wilderness or anything, a lot of the campers were right next to each other. If you like to sleep early don't sleep near the drummers. They drum 'til 1AM every night. =_= The surroundings were really beautiful and green.
Fewer Eclectics than you would think actually. It just so happens that for the most part the people you hung out with were either Gho and I or were part of the Norse Camp.
There were more workshops than any of us really had time to explore as well- it was more hands on than formal philosophical instruction and I was disappointed that I didn't get to attend a couple of them.
As a side note about some of the more "interesting" aspects of what happened, when talking to the Mambo I mentioned, I learned some things about what happened last year that helps explain why our camp was a freaking beacon. Next year, we offer on our first day and chill for the rest of the time. |

I won't deny that. The few times I ventured out and talked to other people I had some of those "heh" moments, like with Cat who thinks Bast is the pacified side of Sekhmet. I won't hold it against her, she's is a really sweet person. smile Or the person who honored Celtic deities at the Christian communion. Or the 14 year old Wiccan priestess in training. sweatdrop But there were really nice people as well. I'll defer to you on the makeup of the attendees since you've been going wayyy longer than I have.

I wish I had gone to the card creating and portable shrine workshops. The entire thing went by so fast that I couldn't muster the energy to walk over there and do it. I needed more "me" time.

If you want details on the rit and other stuff, message moi! Also, please tell your bf what an awesome guy he is, and that I look forward to hanging with him again.

maenad nuri saint dreya And Bristol's Ren Fest is upon us and I haven't gone yet. Must remedy that. Sigh, another year too poor to go. My brother and friends all went last weekend. Although, I can't beat the year of the rockstar tour with Romuel, who was a cast member.
What! And see, here I was hoping on convincing you to come one of these weekends so that I could finally meet you!

Celeblin Galadeneryn We finally got a marker on the grandparents grave. Finally. Five years later. I don't know what hurt more, seeing their names on that piece of stone, or knowing that I was in highschool when Gramma went into the ground and she's been there without a name to her ever since. The only thing left to worry about are those two people that my grandmother gave birth to other than my mother (to call them "aunt" and "uncle" requires both quotation marks and the taste of bile in my mouth). Since she wormed her way into having power of attorney, it was her job to get the headstone put on. Well, five years later we figured she had enough time to have her say, but still, we had to sign something that said we would be responsible for removal of the headstone if she wanted it off. I have a horrible feeling that if it ever came to that, someone in my family would be charged with assault, and I have the feeling it would be my brother for the simple reason that he'd reach that woman before I would.
I'm sorry that you had to go through all of that.
When my father-in-law died he left my brother-in-law in charge and it was a total nightmare, so I completely sympathize. |
