So late last night, I found out that the Westboro Baptist Church, home of Fred Phelps and creators of godhatesfags.com and godhatestheworld.com, were planning on coming to a soldier's funeral this morning to protest in their typically detestable fashion. My friends and I immediately mobilized, organizing a small counter-protest, staying up until 5 am making signs and informative fliers and such. Come 8, we were so ready to stand quietly and express our disgust. My sign said "God Loves All" on one side and I wrote out 1 John 4:20 (He who says, "I love God," yet hates is brother is a liar.) on the other. They never showed up. On the one hand I'm really happy about that, that my town never had to deal with these people. I live in the middle of redneck territory, and I was afraid someone was going to whip their asses for disrespecting a soldier. On the other, I've never seen my friends down here unite spontaneously to handle something like they did last night, and I was really proud of them. I wish their labor had come to fruition.

It's too bad that it didn't work out, but that's pretty awesome.
Now you're all prepared for the next time it happens.

He threatened to come to Monterey once. Then he was shown the exact wording of Monterey county's gang laws, which his cult falls squarely under, including the police's non-interference policy in gang wars, and for some reason didn't shown up.
