Brass Bell Doll Deoridhe *puts the "Educate Us" hat on Doll's head. biggrin Feel free to call me Brass. Does it look anything like the Dapper Brown Captain's Hat? Was there something specific you wanted to know more about? In an unrelated amusement: Did anyone else see the "Wiccan" episode of Bones? I know a little about Prana, and a decent amount about Kundalini (since the latter was rather pushed on us in Neopagan/New Age circles) but nothing about Doshas and Nadi. ^.^
And the "educate us" hat magically morphs to match your outfit, because I say so.
Yes, I saw the "Wiccan" episode, I think. I can remember being vaguely amused but not much of the specifics.

Picture a waterway system- canals with locks. Prana is the water, the rivers and canals are the Nadi, the flow. Doshas make up the balance that maintains a healthy flow with the pools that are connected by the Nadi being the chakras.
Understanding these complex systems is important when working with prana. I feel nervous when I listen to people who are just starting out in Yoga practices or other things. It's the same nervousness that comes from people who have read a single book on Kabalism and are doing "pathworking" up the pillars.
Deoridhe Yes, I saw the "Wiccan" episode, I think. I can remember being vaguely amused but not much of the specifics. I was trying to make out the chat they were saying, so I reached for the remote. My partner grabbed it and stashed it under the sofa, afraid I was going to change the channel or begin to point out the flaws.

Byaggha Brass Bell Doll Picture a waterway system- canals with locks. Prana is the water, the rivers and canals are the Nadi, the flow. Doshas make up the balance that maintains a healthy flow with the pools that are connected by the Nadi being the chakras. And it all ties in neatly with exactly how you should be eating, herbal remedy/oils and exercising for your specific Dosha imbalances related to your underlying constitution, too. It's a wicked full system called Ayurveda, and yeah, go ahead and be really wary of anyone who 'learned' it from one book over here. India's got whole colleges for it. You're looking at thousands of years of refinement and tweaking on that thing. People in my nursing trends class didn't believe other medicine systems got this complex until I made them do a project on it. 3nodding The only reservation I hold is that some parts of Ayurveda are kept out of tradition, rather than there being support for the claims. Since it's a Medical Discipline that should have someone who is trained monitoring the patient, I'm not bothered by a lack of evidence for some components- it could be justified as working placebo. The ones that have me seriously concerned are some of the "remedies" that are actually poisonous.

Byaggha Oh, I know - there was an issue with some of the preps containing mercury or something back in the early 2000s. Bunch of people got sick. That was very unfortunate.
Byaggha But even if some of it doesn't work as medicinal treatment (the preps and oils can get a little shifty sometimes, as you say), I'm intrigued by the exercise/diet portion of it. It's nifty. I agree. I have thought about trying to make a business out of Ayurvedic Fine Dining. It would need to be in New York, LA or Seattle. Reservations would needed and guests would have to expect to spend a couple hours, likely an hour for the intake by someone who is exceptionally well trained, and then the extra time for food preparation specific for the person based on their intake. We would keep files on all the guests so after the first intake, a quick follow up at their next reservation could be added to their file and things would be adjusted as needed.
Byaggha I still want a neti pot; I think that thing might help with my allergies, among other things. There are some lovely neti pots to be had. I have a simple white one I like a great deal.
