CuAnnan So, assuming that the windfall that may be coming my way later this year hits, I'll be going to New Orleans in October. Any other venues I ought to hit while I'm over?
I'm fond of backcountry Louisiana myself. If you're not scared of critters, head out to one of the bayou-parks and rent a kayak. There are nice, clearly marked trails that you can follow to see the real subtropical beauty of the swamp. It should still be plenty warm by that time of year, if you can catch a sunny day. Fanboat rides are less likely to encounter creatures of all sizes, which can be good or bad, depending on your tastes.
Try to avoid eating at most of the places on Bourbon and the area. A few places, like Acme Oyster House, are legit, but most are just overpriced fried tourist food. I do like to get a cocktail on the balcony and watch the revelries from above, though. Try the boudin blanc. You won't be there during the peak crawfish season, but do taste the mudbugs if you feel so inclined.
Natchez is one of my favorite small(er) towns in Louisiana, but from NO you can hop on I-10 and see lots of rural charm without having to get too far away from the city. Umm...ask me if you have more specific questions, I live in south Arkansas, so I know Louisiana fairly well.

And almost as far away is Illinois, but the hubby and I would dig to see you wing.

I'm more partial to the Northshore area but that's where I grew up.

Illiezeulette `S e v e n Just bought a french press and I can safely say that it makes some of the smoothest, most delicious coffee I have ever had. On a note of friends, I need friends. Period. I left all of mine in Connecticut when I moved. And the general Pagan folks around here scare me. =xDitto. I am scared that they will be super white-light fluffy bunnies or super hardline you-whippersnappers-don't-know-s**t uppity type folk (especially the latter, because I have a tendency to come off as the former as a sort of subconscious, anti-anxiety survival tactic of don't-hurt-me-I'm-innocent).
They seem to be the super white-light fluffy bunnies here. I went to one where I was wearing my polka-dot high heals, slim fitting jeans, a nice black peasant top with pretty embroidery. I tried to talking to some and they just looked at me like I had four heads. =(
