Thanks biggrin Next time I go up to the Gamers I'll take a look at the first 2. If I've got the cash after the 2 GURPS books I've been eying for the last 2 months ninja , and hubby's new minitures I'll pick one of them up.
Just as an FYI, I am horribly biased against VtM.
Can't stand the thing myself.

I started to like White Wolf when I started to play WtA.
Also- all of these recommendations are based on Second Ed... which is pretty much where I decided I didn't want to give White Wolf more of my money.

None of these positions reflect what they have done with the game since their major reset.

Dollars to doughnuts says as soon as the selection of names is understood, there will be much in the way of groans- and I might even get thwapted with some gaming books.

Come on By, RP is never about the system itself. wink
If they were, I'd never have touched some of the games I've been involved in. Like Bubblegum Crisis - my love for the anime overrode a system of silly complexity. xd

I used to play WtA online...I think my little wolfpack dissolved though, which is a shame - I was the best corax evar! biggrin

Likewise.

Actually Isakane and I met because his power-mad reincarnated werewolf waved a dead snake at my eshu.

I'm going to be honest, I bought the book mainly as a source for art from the anime. biggrin

In a completely unrelated note, YES. It's about time this was discredited publicly as it has been in the medical community for some time. Thank you, Lancet. Thank you.

'Bout bloody time.
12 years of research about the methods and numbers, and they performed an unprecedented move: Yanking support entirely, and discrediting the study as misleading and false.

I'm actually looking now for their total findings; this guy was a complete jerk of a doctor. Apparently (and I've got nothing for this so far, looking for actual cites now from the Lancet) he paid kids at his kids' birthday parties $5 a piece for blood samples so he could test them. What the hell, guy?

Edit: I take that back. It was 5 pounds, so about $8 USD.

Here's what the Lancet officially published regarding it on their website:

Quote:
Following the judgment of the UK General Medical Council's Fitness to Practise Panel on Jan 28, 2010, it has become clear that several elements of the 1998 paper by Wakefield et al are incorrect, contrary to the findings of an earlier investigation. In particular, the claims in the original paper that children were "consecutively referred" and that investigations were "approved" by the local ethics committee have been proven to be false. Therefore we fully retract this paper from the published record.

Edit: Found the document they based the retraction on - the UK's

Brace yourselves, it's long... I'm still rummaging through to see if I can do a sum-up. It may take a while.

Here's a hint for the contest.
My first D&D character is named Edhelelen.

Tell you what- based on the name if you can tell me what her class is, you get 1k as well. But it has to be justified with a reason. I won't accept just the class. No sense in having folks guess through the list.
Hrm. Well I know that "Edhellen" without the extra e means Elvish in Sindarin (forget if it's the same in Quenya), so if I'm going to use that, I have to say Bard, as that's the only class with Speak Language as a Class spell, if we're using 3.5

Holy cow, this guy was a class A jerk. So far in this judgement, he's basically overstepped his bounds and taken over a study, put two inpatient autistic kids through a battery of tests despite not having pediatric qualifications, and he didn't have ethics clearing (which is something he registered for for a certain series of tests and such, and deviated from that entirely once he got rolling) to do anything to at least one of them.

Hell, the one they call Child 1 wasn't even legally considered part of the study - Wakefield apparently didn't have any study clearance til December; tests were carried out in July and October, and the kid failed to meet inclusion criteria altogether.

It looks like, in the end, he's basically nothing more than a money grubbing jerkwad who liked the limelight a study like this would offer him - he was on the payroll of a class action suit against the makers of the MMR at the time he did the study.

ou're heading in the right direction.
You're also the one most likely to beat me for this.
