What laptop do you have? Does your software driver specify which card you have?

It's an HP Pavilion tx2110us. It's got an NVidia card in it. I think I found it, if other websites are correct and it's really just a chip, not a graphics card.

Now if I can only figure out what's wrong. I've heard it's a soldering issue, but I don't know what I should be looking for.
Any luck on googling up a video that shows the repair?

Nope. I really don't want to spend the $400 for HP to replace my motherboard. Especially since it looks like lots and lots of people with the same computer have this same issue about half a year after the warrantee expires.
Any chance taking it in to get fixed would be cheaper?

Well, it'd still be kinda expensive to get a new chip, get someone to pry off the old one and attach the new one. If I was a little more skilled in soldering, I could probably do it myself.

Although I might go find the computer repair place near my work and see if they have any more ideas.

Once my dad gets finished with whatever computer project he's doing in the room I use as a computer room, I'll set up my desktop and I'll at least have something I can use that isn't my mom's computer.

Figures the first week I start at the student university paper, they're missing articles and they need me to write. gonk

But my article for next week literally involves me writing about the best desserts on campus (and running around and actually eating them). ninja

As in table-top RPGs? Or video games?

Note to self:

This condition plus red wine is bad.
This condition plus red meat is good.

Stop confusing the two.

I decided to be ironic with my avatar.

Totally random...but I just wanted to say I really like your blog. I had no idea all this transphobic bullshit is associated with the feminist movement. sad I'm still trying to figure out how I can be feminist without my middle-class (passing) white privilege getting in the way.

Constant self analysis and be willing to have accountability for the mistakes that you will invariably make. Of course, that's just how to handle life in general so it makes sense it would make someone be a good feminist too.

That's what I was and am doing. Although it's almost inevitable that I might have a slip-up every now and then. I'm prepared to apologize if (when) that happens.

Then you are golden.

I've always had a hard time identifying with a given rights group- X Ethnic Rights, X Gender/Sex/Etc Rights, and so on because I come to a place where I'm about Equal Civil Rights and the only way I end up being labeled is because I have limited resources to fight against established denial of rights that target small groups.

Egalitarianism, right? I almost always misspell that word. >.<

I game a bit, depends on the game.

Also, on an aside, I feel I aught apologize.
I use y'all to get a gauge for perspectives outside my own. I can be so stubborn and willful that on those few occasions when I am concerned about what might be socially appropriate, I must-needs ask others to help me figure it out. sweatdrop

And I'm still here in the office.

And there's way too many people still here.

And I just proofread a review of what sounds like the most terrible horror movie. EVAR.

Thank you, however I tend to post my actual quereys in here or in other threads that seem the correct place. Like my issue on stepping in on someone making sport of someone's discomfort. Things like that, where my actions don't just reflect and fall out on me, then I care what the world thinks.
I don't have the right to decide for another person to raise the middle finger at society at large.... just because I decided so. If I act on someone else's behalf, my actions reflect on them.
Currently, I am without inquiry, however, I did presently realize that what I was doing (using this area as a sample test group for the society at large) might be incorrect, so I wanted to offer apologies, if that is the case.
