Oi! Hubby and I are 2 of the most fire consious people now. Blasted fire wasn't even our fault. Idiot 14yr old was using a lighter under his bed. Said he was looking for something he'd dropped. He put an entire building worth of people out of their homes, killed 3 cats and numerous birds. The poor folks 2 rooms down the hall from us had only moved in a few days before. They lost almost everything.
We got lucky and didn't loose anything. Had some vet bills for the mice, rats and birds post fire (we got the cats out when we left), but everyone pulled through. The one mouse just had to be euthanized Saturday night due to respiratory scarring from the smoke.

First fire-
I was in AIT for the Army and lost everything I owned (and I mean everything. I brought everything I owned to that place before I left for the military), aside from a few DVDs, my Laptop, Army stuff, and one set of clothes that didn't even fit me anymore since I lost a bunch of weight (...which I have gained all back due to stress). It was deemed an electrical fire.
Second fire-
Trailer I was living with with my wife, youngest son, and my wife's older two children.
Started in the middle of the night and if it wasn't for our 4 month old cat, we would have probably died or at least my youngest son would have. His bed/crib/playpin shared a wall with the wall the caught on fire. Stupid outlet short circuiting. It was deemed an electrical fire caused by faulting wiring. Got no money from the Landlord and lost everything due to fire damage or smoke damage.

I still swear my soon to be ex-wife started both fires...but I cannot prove it.

Also, there's a Doctor Who/Stargate convention that I am apparently going to in a few months. *is excited* I've never been to a convention before, but given that these are my two favorite t-v series fandoms, and I'll be going with friends, I'm certain it'll be a blast. Although, if they emphasize the new Doctor Who, I may be disappointed. Apparently the Master has become a mix of Superman (e can leap tall-buildings in a single bound!), a Sith Lord (shoots lightning out of e's hand), and a glutinous skeleton.

Recursive Paradox
L from Death note looks and sits an awful lot like Error does. And yes, Error came first, so there.

He fears going to anime conventions because he hates L fangirls.
Awwwwwwww
Error can be so cute.

Yes he can be. Although he hates it when people say so. XD

Calelith

@Paradox:
I completely forgot about Error...

I'm actually not sure who you are so I'm assuming you knew him before I did?

True Colours of Destiny

Come to a Canadian one. We're a lot less vicious and more friendly. xD

I dunno, I know a lot of vicious Canadians.

The flip side of this is that in situations such as domestic violence, women in the US are twice as likely to be murdered than women in the UK last I checked.

But then, the challenge is ensuring the right people are in a position to be armed.

And know how and when to use those weapons.

Quote:
As for Self Defense in England and Wales, you'd have to check with The Criminal Law Act 1967 and The Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, which assures Self Defense as a legal protected action, with much the same limitations as we have here in the US.

As with so much in the U.S. self defense rights are very different from State to State.
For my part... The Law Commission Report on Partial Defences to Murder (2004) Part 4 (pp78/86) is something I may be misreading, but it seems to pretty much uphold my entire gripe that it is the realm of the court rather than hard laws, to decide whether "reasonable force" was used.

My basic understand of our government is that there isn't any such thing as "Hard Law", since it is the responsibility of the courts to interpret and apply what the Congressional and Executive branches put into place.

And really? I don't want "Hard Law" when it comes to self defense to be a tool by which sociopaths, psychopaths and individuals in emotional distress can create a check list of what conditions they have to meet before they can murder someone.

So um, I've got a job interview tomorrow. And since I've had a number of interviews in the past six months and haven't yet been given a job afterwards, I would really appreciate any prayers/thoughts/good vibes/whatever sent my way, especially since I've got rent due soon and no money to pay it with.

Thanks.

Anyone else find it ironic that Lifetime is marking the new season of America's Next Top Model with a film about a prostitute?
