Hubby and I are broke. We usually have around twenty to thirty people on our list. That is why we make 99% of our presents.

For me, there is a magic in gifting. It holds strong traditions and even if all my husband buys for me is a rose, that rose is worth its weight in gold and then some.

But then, I've been homeless without more than the clothes on my back so I like having stuff, even if the stuff is something that will one day go away, it brings comfort and hope to me.

I don't think there's any point commenting on the thread itself since it was made in '08, but it might be of worth to at least have other viewpoints that let people know that no, there is no unified group of Kemetic practitioners, but a variety of different temples, approaches, and interpretations, some of which object to the blatant ignorance of KO's own practitioners that don't even recognize that it is not reconstructionist but revivalist. stressed

I know I'm a SUPER quiet member here, but I think you should. It's important to let people know what their options are in regard to KO--it also prevents one tradition from "taking over."

I'm in the process of making an alternative primer for those who are interested so that the majority of people don't get swept up into KO because it's the most active, most vocal, and most well-known group.

Tea: I'll try to post a link that is suitable, but what I had in mind is going to take a lot of work before I can post it with the confidence that it will help more than confuse.

I hope everybody has had a nice christmas!

I got a new phone, which is a big thing for me, because I've had my old one for many many years.

Unfortunately, I have been ill today, which hasn't been great. >.<

Next year, I am going to ask my family to donate money to a local volunteer-run cat shelter in lieu of buying me presents. If they insist on doing something for me for Christmas, it can at least be useful instead of burdening me with well-meant stuff that I have no room for. x_x

This. The difference for me is that I dislike the idea of gifting that occurs on a specific day. Random, spontaneous gifting has been the way Error and I operate and prefer operating in to this day. But gifts are sacred whether made, found or bought.

For me, it's more about giving a token of love, care or affection. Finding something someone needs or wants and giving it to them for nothing in return is a strong sign of care because of the effort that went into it, not just the item.

It's why made gifts have so much significance to me. Because that's some serious work and some serious love.

I love giving things to people, and if I had any way to make things I would love to do that. What you mentioned... with the rose, that would be perfect, if that is what he would do - but he won't. He will literally by some really stupid, useless thing, just so he can say "I bought you something". I'd rather he just give me a foot rub, it means more and costs less. xd

hubby got into my art supplies one year and made me certificates for free back rubs, foot rubs, a Swap of Chores and some other such things.

Though, the favorite to date is the small pressed penny we trade back and forth. It says "Good for one free hug and kiss".

Please do! I looked for other groups but all the ones I could find were defunct, Tameran Wicca, or very local (but not to me) with little online presence. I would love to explore other options.

I think the reason the US has such an issue with food- specifically over consumption of proteins and fats, is a byproduct of how little work most of us do when it comes to consuming said animals.

I know if I had to slaughter my own chicken every night, I likely wouldn't want to do that after I get home from work. wink

I'm watching the Graham Norton Doctor Who special and all I can think is...

Americans need to serve wine on their talk shows.
