EternalHearts Bastemhet I don't think there's any point commenting on the thread itself since it was made in '08, but it might be of worth to at least have other viewpoints that let people know that no, there is no unified group of Kemetic practitioners, but a variety of different temples, approaches, and interpretations, some of which object to the blatant ignorance of KO's own practitioners that don't even recognize that it is not reconstructionist but revivalist. stressed I know I'm a SUPER quiet member here, but I think you should. It's important to let people know what their options are in regard to KO--it also prevents one tradition from "taking over."
I'm in the process of making an alternative primer for those who are interested so that the majority of people don't get swept up into KO because it's the most active, most vocal, and most well-known group.
Tea: I'll try to post a link that is suitable, but what I had in mind is going to take a lot of work before I can post it with the confidence that it will help more than confuse.

TeaDidikai For me, there is a magic in gifting. It holds strong traditions and even if all my husband buys for me is a rose, that rose is worth its weight in gold and then some.
This. The difference for me is that I dislike the idea of gifting that occurs on a specific day. Random, spontaneous gifting has been the way Error and I operate and prefer operating in to this day. But gifts are sacred whether made, found or bought.
Quote: But then, I've been homeless without more than the clothes on my back so I like having stuff, even if the stuff is something that will one day go away, it brings comfort and hope to me.
For me, it's more about giving a token of love, care or affection. Finding something someone needs or wants and giving it to them for nothing in return is a strong sign of care because of the effort that went into it, not just the item.
It's why made gifts have so much significance to me. Because that's some serious work and some serious love.

TeaDidikai Hubby and I are broke. We usually have around twenty to thirty people on our list. That is why we make 99% of our presents. For me, there is a magic in gifting. It holds strong traditions and even if all my husband buys for me is a rose, that rose is worth its weight in gold and then some. But then, I've been homeless without more than the clothes on my back so I like having stuff, even if the stuff is something that will one day go away, it brings comfort and hope to me.
I love giving things to people, and if I had any way to make things I would love to do that. What you mentioned... with the rose, that would be perfect, if that is what he would do - but he won't. He will literally by some really stupid, useless thing, just so he can say "I bought you something". I'd rather he just give me a foot rub, it means more and costs less. xd

TeaDidikai too2sweet I'd rather he just give me a foot rub, it means more and costs less. xd hubby got into my art supplies one year and made me certificates for free back rubs, foot rubs, a Swap of Chores and some other such things. Though, the favorite to date is the small pressed penny we trade back and forth. It says "Good for one free hug and kiss".
d'aww.
