rmcdra TeaDidikai rmcdra Please help. Is it true that Christmas is a misappropriation of Sol Inviticus to convert the pagans? I don't believe it is but I can't find any information on this subject. Other way around actually. Christmas as an observation of Yeshua's incarnation predated the Mid-Winter celebration of Sol Invictus. Is there sources for this? I'm getting bombarded about how Christianity is a stolen pagan holiday and NewAdvent.org is actually failing me here. Update: The oldest documentation of Sol Inviticus is 354 CE where as the oldest documentation of Christmas being on the 25th is 243 CE. |

I should clarify the Aurelian thing. Aurelian is the one said to have started it by ancient sources. Kind of like how ancient sources say Rome wasn't inhabited before 753 BC. And they're really the only source we have on that being the right date. And as far as Rome goes, we have archaeological evidence that certain hills were inhabited as far back as 1000 BC. As for DNSI, we have no evidence besides an author or two to say that Aurelian originated the festival. |
