Hm.
Apparently plagiarism is only plagiarism if you intend to do it, not simply the act of not giving credit for a written piece.
rolleyes .

:/ I know the intent can be pretty important (the difference between failing a class and legal action, for instance) but really? How do you not intend to copypasta someone else's work when you find it, copy it, and put your name on it?

In the case being talked about, a potential scenario would be hitting the submit button prior to pasting the link.

In my own experience, I do not always do my research in an orderly fashion which leaves me to having to comb through my essays to find any work that is not my original material so that I may give credit. I haven't had an issue yet, but it would be possible for me to make a mistake there. Of course, it would still be plagiarism.

Edited.

I might have a myspace pen-pal. In Croatia. Who is cuuuuuuuute. 4laugh

xD Awesome. heart

I had a teacher from Croatia. Horrible teacher. xD

Haha, what class was it for?

European History. The teacher's accent was intelligible for the better half of the first semester and e would always go off on tangents such as to talk about Croatia, shoes, clothing, Croatia, family, time as an illegal citizen, and Croatia some more. xP

Still, all the person in question would have had to have done was say "Oh I forgot to stick the link in there for citation! Sorry!" rather than the bitching and moaning about the call of plagiarism and how it wasn't intended.

That would do it wouldn't it. smile I'm a fairly organized person, so I don't usually have that problem. I'm very paranoid about it as well. >.<

Baklava is Turkish? I thought it was Greek?

Baklava is Turkish? I thought it was Greek?

A fair chunk of what is sometimes considered ancient Greece is Turkey.
The Ottoman empire, after taking Constantinople brought a good chunk of the Peloponnese peninsula under heel.

OED:

trans. Originally of writers, later also of composers, artists, etc.: to take and use as one's own (the thoughts, writings, or inventions of another person); to copy (literary work or ideas) improperly or without acknowledgement; (occas.) to pass off as one's own the thoughts or work of (another). Also fig. Also intr.

The 'try' is not present. One need not try, one need not intend, to, in effect, 'pass off as one's own the thoughts or work of (another)."

Certainly, a university - or my university, at the least - will consider unintentional acts to be plagiarism and to be a breach of the honor code.

Oh. My knowledge of geography is horrendous. sweatdrop

Ah, gotcha. Reminds me of a song by Thomas Lehrer actually.

As for geography, it is history as much as that.
The Ottomans were the overlords of Thracia for a good long time. The Greek desire for independence was a thorn in modern Turkey's side, in the attempt to gain international recognition, for some time. Bad business all around.

It was something else, that's for sure.

Edit: Actually, that's not true. It is a common tactic, just not one that I am accustomed to see be implemented on the internet.
