I was supposed to have a World Civilization class this morning, but my cell phone's alarm decided not to work for the first time ever. I had been debating whether to drop that class, however, and add Ancient Religions instead (it's at 9 AM, which is why I wasn't sure), so I took this my cell phone telling me that I should suck it up and switch.

Now all my classes that aren't music are religion based: Ancient Religions, which apparently covers Greece, Rome and Egypt; History of Islamic Civilization; and History of East Asian Religions. Is excited!

Sounds like a fun semester!

So...anyone going to DragonCon?

If so, would you like to meet up someplace?

My East Asian Religions prof is a Tibetan refugee who grew up in India and likes going off on long winded tangents heart And my Ancient Religions prof is British, which will help with the 9 AM bit. I'm kind of sad that we aren't spending any time on Zoroastrianism in Ancient Religions, though I suppose it is through the Classics department, so they have that sore spot with the Persians. Apparently we're going to be talking about it for a couple of days in my Islam class though, so that works!

I just found out today that my university will be offering a religious studies minor in 2011, 2 years after I graduate! Blast my timing *shakes fist*

Mine already does. If I didn't already have a double minor, I'd probably add it. I may anyway, if I decide to go the double major route with Spanish and have a double major AND a double minor. xD

I'd probably take the minor if my major didn't have such strict restrictions on what level of courses I could take every year.

I'm lucky in that aspect, there's a HUGE number of English courses I can take, a lot of them are also gender studies courses, and most of the gender studies courses count for another area too. So I can knock out most of my requirements while still getting credit for my major and one of my minors! xD

Is seeing the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibition worth the extra money?
I know it was for me... but then, we all know how that kind of stuff floats my boat.

That said, Life Ate me!

I now have plenty of volenteers, in fact, a few extra, so I'm going to do something else for the folks at the end of the list since I intended it to be first come first served.

Mine had a religious studies major and a minor, with more professors in the Religious Studies Department than the Philosophy Department... Then again, two of the four Philosophy professors doubled as Relgious Studies professors.

And I would have added a major or minor in Religious Studies if I hadn't switched majors three times, each time picking up a major with more requirements than the last one. And by the middle of my junior year and my final major switch, I was a Neuroscience and Psych double major without having taken any of the basic science classes needed for Neuroscience.

It was quite an odd experience being a junior in a freshman level Chemistry and Biology class, though.

Well the apartment complex is letting us out of our lease thanks to the fire. I got most of our clothes out today and my parents are coming this weekend to help us move the rest of our stuff into a self-storage unit. I think everything is going to turn out OK.

On another note. Since we couldn't get into our apartment yesterday and really needed to get our minds off of what happened hubby and I went to see District 9 yesterday. It was Awesome!!! One of the best Sci-fi films I have seen in years.

According to U.S. News and World Reports:

College of William and Mary Law School is ranked 28th and Northwestern Law School is ranked 10th, the application fee for the former is $50, the application fee for the latter is $100... Is an 18 spot difference really worth an extra $50?

I think not, but Northwestern is my dream school, though I could easily settle for College of William and Mary.

Well see, I'm in an entirely different faculty. And all of the programs in said faculty are so specialized, you can't take a minor in ANY OF THEM.

So, I'm doing history, because that way, I don't have to redo first year again with my electives. And that's why I'm trying to take religious and cultural themed classes. Like the class titled "Heresy!" next year. Yes, that "!" is in the actual title. rofl

^_^ A heresy class would be fun!

Second day of class, and my prof brought up the polytheist vs henotheist vs soft polytheist (though he wasn't sure what to call it... what do you call that? It's been ages since I called it anything but soft polytheism) thing when talking about Egyptian polytheism. I didn't add my views on the topic since he sent the class home wanting to think about it, but my friend looked at me at the end of class and was like "OMG! What's going on! Help!!!!" I think I'm going to like this class!

This guild (and the people in it) are somewhat responsible for my extreme giddiness at the thought of going to college next year. heart
(Penn State's library also takes a good deal of the credit. ninja )

Are people here majoring in languages/religion/history? If so, what is it that y'all plan on doing with the majors? I am on a Bio track right now (pre-pharm) but science doesn't interest me all too much. (Well, I love chemical equations, studying genetics, doing experiments, and such. Just, most of it I don't like.) However, the aforementioned areas do. I just don't know what I could do with them to make a living after highschool.
