Gho the Girl
So, I applied to Visiting Nurse Services here in Rochester. And I think I got accepted into the training program, thanks to some very kind words on the part of my pastor who used to work with them for years. If I pass that, I'm officially hired!

I'm really excited.

Whoot!

I got my books for my Criminal Profiling class yesterday, and I started flipping through them. One of them includes a section on Satanic cults.

Ironically, they mention LeVay, reprint the Nine Satanic Statements, and even the application of membership... yet somewhow forget the stance of the CoS on Satan, and if I'm reading it correctly, imply that the Church does animal and human sacrifice.

Congradulations! The visiting nurses were haven sent when Grandma Sally was still alive. I think my mother may have killed grandma if it hadn't been for them coming and helping out.

The last few weeks have been hell for me, thus the absence. I found out that my favorite professor is finally loosing her fight with breast cancer, my grandfather was just diagnosed with lung cancer and my dog died after getting some crazy fungal infection in her leg. So now I'm in Redding, CA to spend time with my grandpa. He's been out of the hospital for about a week now and is doing better, but he looks so frail compared to the last time I saw him 3 years ago sad It's very hard for me to see him this way, but we've been talking a lot, which is nice.

I can't take much more of this 100+ degree weather though! I can't wait to head up into the mountains tomorrow, where I'll at least have a nice cold creek to spend most of the day in!

I am having enormous fun making jewelry in honor of various Names. Made one for Nut earlier this week, and I've got pieces on tap for Wesir, Hethert, Aset, Amenet, Yinepu, Bast, Sekhmet, Nun, Set, Djehuty, Wepwawet, Geb, and Amun-Ra.

...I have a bit of a bead problem. sweatdrop (I found carnelian beads shaped like phalanges! 4laugh )

If anyone wants one, I'm happy to make something. But I know not everyone here is a Kemet fan and I have a TON of beads, so if anyone wants something for some other god and can tell me what they like, I can give it a try. smile

That's amazingly hilarious given how the Statements clearly state not to make animal sacrifices. Win for copy-paste!

And comics that make use of the Bible are full of win!

I've just found out today on my first day to my new college my History professor's name.

I kid you not. It's Dr. Jones.

My Indiana Jones fangirl-ism just giggled insanely. That is all.

so, my father is taking over the Overnight Director position for the homeless shelter he works at, and they were negotating salary. Now, dad is retired, has full health benefits for mom and Philip through his old employer and the shelter was trying to decide how they would give my father the 5k for medical benefits.

My dad finally says, "Give my son a few more hours a week, and we will call it good". My brother's wages for an entire year is about $800.

Shelter decided that was a good deal.

The new, first year of teaching, female ecology teacher is Dr. Ashpole. Which is humorous considering that one of the required textbooks (before she pulled it) was called "Trees in Canada". xD

I got to see an extended 16 minute trailer of James Cameron's Avatar movie. In IMAX. IN GLORIOUS 3D. My sister won the tickets. biggrin

I'd say.

Sometimes it isn't that we should be disappointed with others... just that we should realize our error in expectations of them.

Do you happen to know of any online resources selling blue beads that look like lapis lazuli? I've been waiting to make some prayer beads but the cost of the stone in total would be too high for my price range.

District 9 was really very awesome. That movie was the first sci fi movie I had seen in a long while that indirectly referenced its social commentary through the interactions between humans and aliens, instead of just being a shoot em up action movie.

So much sci fi literature uses foils as a means to make social statements so it always disappointed me how little sci fi movies did this. D-9 restored some of my faith in the genre in movies.

Also, did you know, Apartheid took place in the 90's? That's right. The ******** 90's. We have not come far at all as a species. And we're still crushing marginalized groups into the dust for no more reason than, "they're different"

That movie really made me think to myself, "********, no wonder no aliens have made full contact. We are certifiable assholes."
