so youre feeling tied up to a sense of control / and make decision that you think are your own /
When Heather is the last one left in her shop and there is a motorcycle one too many to repair, she plugs in her communicator to chase away the silence of the night.
She doesn't really pay attention to the sounds -- she's got work to do, after all -- but hearing the voices of her friends talking makes a warm feeling pool in her chest and makes the silence less daunting.
Tonight she hears Rose, Ivy and Dominic out in the field. Occasionally Avery's voice will chime in too, though Heather knows she's overseeing everything from the comfort of her own high-tech office. The trio don't talk much except to relay information, though occasionally Ivy and Dominic will argue about something or another. Insults about an early divorce and a career rejection are thrown around until Rose snaps at them both to shut up.
It's nice, almost. Even if Heather doesn't really know what she's doing with her life, it's reassuring to hear that her friends do. She doesn't even bat an eye at the warnings and hurried relaying of information until she hears Rose's voice.
"Tell me everything you know. We may have been friends once, but I won't hesitate to kill you."
Heather feels her shoulders stiffen up when she hears Dominic and Ivy demand that Rose escape, that Hopper isn't worth it, and why is Hopper there? Wasn't it bad for friends to fight eachother?
Ivy is yelling something in French.
The warm feeling of familiarity is replaced with something cold this time, a fuzzy feeling that reminds her vaguely of a bad television reception out in the country. It takes Heather a moment to realize that the fuzzy feeling is partly because the reception on the device hooked into her ear has gone dead, white noise pressing it's way into her thoughts.
It takes Heather another moment to realize that she's stopped working on the piece of metal in front of her, and she wonders why her hands are trembling.

I want trees instead of gravestones / and nothing to confess / I got a soft spot for your ancient books of horror stories / I got a music in my ears from long long ago and far far away / and I still hum its tune / but how could I ever believe every word it says to me? (HIGHLY RECC LISTENING!)
hero ✗ friend ✗ liar ✓
Every highschool experience has a teenager that dies young, but you never expected it would be you.
You know that your firecrackers were perfectly fine when you checked them - double checked them - and if you had the slightest doubt that they would go wrong, you would have chosen a better area to shoot them off in. You know there is something incredible wrong about your death. You know that it was not an accident. You know that Gallagher and Blackthorne are probably trying their damndest to make sure that you never existed. You know.
You can't bring yourself to care, though.
If you had cared, you think you would probably still be there; a ghost, maybe. You weren't really sure where you went, but you're in a field encircled by trees sitting on fluffy grass and feeling a vague sense of detachment at the back of your head and neck.
When you're bored, you like to compose letters to the rest of your friends. You wonder how they're doing. You like to pretend that you'd tell them about how wonderfully exciting death is, how heaven really existed and how you couldn't wait till they came, too.
Acting cheery so people would be cheery at the thought of you, but in the end you think that thoughts of you will only make people sad. The irony isn't lost on you, and you begin to laugh, the trademark bubbly sound pouring out of your throat through the silence of wind blowing through tree leaves.
(even forced laughter comes naturally after long enough)
