Apparently the local LDS, JW and Baptist Door to Door Missionaries all decided to visit my apartment at the same time... literally!

Last week was shite! My parents' divorce has gone from not much fun to incredibly nasty and full of spite. My dad's been getting insanely drunk, tried to kick my sister out of the house the other day. Thankfully I got to spend the weekend with my fiancee, out of this house and got to relax for a while. Then there was the flipping through the channels and seeing "Syfy"... GAH!!!!

So, new week, full of painting and Harry Potter... good times.

Naw, I just asked the JW's why they Anglicinized a sacred name, why the LDS insist that tea is unhealthy without any scientific proof and why the Baptists can hold a doctrine of purpetuiality when there is no direct line of decent from the foundation of the church into the present day, even if groups such as the Paulicians, Montanists, Donatists, Albigensians, Cathars, Anabaptists etc existed, but did not temporally perpetuate themselves.

I also offered them something to drink and said they could all come in and rest a bit out of the sun if they wanted.

Driving fail! gonk I'll have to retest. Hopefully then I'll be less nervous and better able to park near the curb without getting on it (cringe!). Not fun.

On a more guild-related subject: I think I'm a pantheist, although I don't yet know whether I'm a naturalistic or classical pantheist. More research to follow.

I failed my driver's test on the first go. Was much easier the second time around. Knew what to expect and all that. That, and I didn't break traffic law the second time.

Late comer, but on the note of "Cultural Rape", I don't like to use rape to describe anything other than non-consensual sexual intercourse. When I first saw the term cultural rape, I thought it meant rape that was sanctioned by a culture. Another mark in my book against cultural relativism taken to certain degrees. As much as it sounds like some re-hash of white man's burden, there are certain practices that I really don't care about the perspective of the people performing them. Forcibly incinerating another person is not acceptable to me, regardless of how correct it is in context to the society that does the immolating. In fact, there is a clearing house of practices, that while considered normal and right in their culture, I would feel obligated to oppose, even unto the point of eradicating the parent culture if need be. This is presumptuous of me, but to say otherwise would be a lie. I am so arrogant that I would interfere with a culture's right to execute the victims of rape. Slippery slope that it is, I would rather dwell on it than know I gave tacit endorsement to such foulness.
