maenad nuri True Colours of Destiny Calixti maenad nuri So I've read 4 books in the past ...2 days. 3 are off a Queer Teen Lit reading list and the other was historical fiction ....a mary sue who unfortunately was supposed to be Deborah Sampson. And uh....I need more. Man, I always forget how much I love teen lit, and why I want to study it at a higher level. I wish I'd had one of those in high school. sweatdrop O_____o I want that list! I need ample reading material this summer and my local library rarely stocks new sci-fi books and I've almost read them all. I just made myself read a steampunk with heavy Christian overtures of all things. Send list please? xD I'm Here, I'm Queer, What the Hell do I Read?I really rec the works of Alex Sanchez, David Levithan, the books Parrotfish (I know I've read it, but I can't remember reading it, but it's main character is transgendered) and Absolutly, Positively ..... NOT and Geography Club. A lot of the queer teen lit has a similar theme to it: person (I've mostly read books with male leads) starts thinking he's gay, freaks out, but the local queer realizes and helps sort him out. In the end, there's now a GSA at the school, or some sort of club to help other queer members. A little formalistic, but a lot of teen lit is, and the writing makes it really good. Bookmarked! I'll have to go through when I have more time, see if it's got any fantasy rec's other than The Last Herald-Mage trilogy. Thanks, Nuri. heart

TeaDidikai sage_thalos TeaDidikai I just finished reading one of the Dresden File Shorts. cool have you read a series by t.p pratt, the first book is called blood engine. if not it a really good urban fantasy series if you like that kind of stuff Haven't. I might have to look into it. To be honest, I'm mostly reading non-fiction these days. I only stray for Dresden because I have a shameless fangirl crush. ah, well if you ever get back into fiction is a great series, i think

True Colours of Destiny So last Sunday, I found out something that made me want to smack myself. Apparently, my local temple has hired a teacher from India. To teach Sanskrit. I wish I could have taken that class. gonk There was an Indian teacher in one of the schools I attended over the years who spoke Sanskrit. He's, thusfar, the only foreigner I know of who could a) pronounce my name properly and b) render Irish to a written form that properly replicated its phonetics. He could hear a word, write down some sanskrit letters and be able to reproduce the sounds well enough that I didn't cringe. Now, admittedly, he had an accent, but we allow for those things. Turns out, Irish and Sanskrit share an ancestor and, ironically enough, it was this teacher who informed me that Irish was one of the oldest spoken languages in the world, it being a third generation language, most languages (other than English) are fourth or fifth.
