Calixti maenad nuri So I've read 4 books in the past ...2 days. 3 are off a Queer Teen Lit reading list and the other was historical fiction ....a mary sue who unfortunately was supposed to be Deborah Sampson. And uh....I need more. Man, I always forget how much I love teen lit, and why I want to study it at a higher level. I wish I'd had one of those in high school. sweatdrop O_____o I want that list! I need ample reading material this summer and my local library rarely stocks new sci-fi books and I've almost read them all. I just made myself read a steampunk with heavy Christian overtures of all things.
Send list please? xD

Nines19 Recursive Paradox I'm trying to find the time to get started on building a symbol circle out of cloth or something (basically something I can fold or roll up when I don't need it and just roll out onto the floor when I do) and use it for heavier forms of Aspect channeling where I need a greater level of psychodrama and ritual to reach connection point and get the energy flow to move. Any suggestions on materials I should use and what I should use to put the symbols onto the channeling mat? Paint? Sewing? I'm not sure building is the right word...
Sometimes words and I have small spats and we don't make up until after I write a post. sweatdrop
Quote: If you're using fabric, I wouldn't recommend paint. Even fabric paint, to be honest. It gets all hard and crustyish and personally I'd find that annoying. (Ymmv, of course, I'm just throwing stuff out there.) Sewing stuff on there can be better because the thread/yarn/whatever you end up using is usually a soft material, but it can also be annoying if you're going to be stepping on these things barefoot.
Yeah true. I really don't want grossness on the mat.
Quote: If you're open to materials you can't actually literally roll up but that can still be put away pretty easily (depending on size), I've had experience with a wooden circle that worked for similar-but-not things for me. Painting on wood is also (IMO) easier than sewing or painting on fabric.
What about sewing circles and simple symbol lines over the mat and then rigging up small circular pieces of wood with the more complex Aspect or Essence symbols on them and then simply placing them on the outer smaller circles when I unwrap the mat? That could work pretty well.

I'm Here, I'm Queer, What the Hell do I Read?
I really rec the works of Alex Sanchez, David Levithan, the books Parrotfish (I know I've read it, but I can't remember reading it, but it's main character is transgendered) and Absolutly, Positively ..... NOT and Geography Club.
A lot of the queer teen lit has a similar theme to it: person (I've mostly read books with male leads) starts thinking he's gay, freaks out, but the local queer realizes and helps sort him out. In the end, there's now a GSA at the school, or some sort of club to help other queer members.
A little formalistic, but a lot of teen lit is, and the writing makes it really good.

TeaDidikai Recursive Paradox I'm trying to find the time to get started on building a symbol circle out of cloth or something (basically something I can fold or roll up when I don't need it and just roll out onto the floor when I do) and use it for heavier forms of Aspect channeling where I need a greater level of psychodrama and ritual to reach connection point and get the energy flow to move. How big does it have to be? Larger than a few inches, I recommend weaving or crocheting a mat. You can pick up and cleanse Good Will sheets in a color of your choice, rip them into strips and then weave, "embroider" or crochet the design in. If it's smaller, I would recommend buying some fabric or leather. Fabric isn't hard to embroider, and the leather can be pyro-etched or dyed. Pyro-etching, while dramatic, isn't as durable.
It would probably have to be big enough to sit on in the center and still have some circular area outside of that central point for channeling inflow to the central conduit (i.e. myself). So probably a weave or crocheted mat then.
I should learn crochet. Crocheting? This word is giving me difficulties x_X
