Welcome back, Berz! I was going to attend Pennsic this year, but losing my job in April kinda put the end to that. Still, what with my health lately, I guess it's a good idea NOT to go camping in the heat... smile

In other news, the verbal job offer Hod mentioned has turned into a full real offer--I start this coming Thursday! smile Yayness! It came just in time, too; my old company gave me severance pay, which runs out at the end of this month. Whew!

Bummer about Pennsic, Jasta. The money is the big factor keeping me home from it this year, too. But weird politicalness in Northshield surrounding Pennsic has definitely tempered my sadness quite a bit. Has to do with which side Northshield is fighting for and why. I just don't want to get within twenty city blocks of that argument.

I hear that Pennsic Crack has gone the way of the dodo. I weep for never having tasted it.

I'm starting to set aside a little money for Gulf War next spring, though. With any luck, it'll be my first war. 3nodding

Alas, apparently true... *sobs*

For those not in the know, "Pennsic Crack" was the nickname given to a seemingly innocent product: genuine milk from a local distributor, specifically the chocolate variety. In this day of fat-free everything, those who regularly attended the Pennsic War--in western Pennsylvania--drank copious amounts of the Chocolate Heaven while at war, and frequently brought lots of it home in ice chests. The stuff was SO good, so rich... it had flecks of white in it, flecks of... cream and fat. If you put it in a blender it turned almost instantly into chocolate whipped cream, it was so high in fat content. Maybe not good for your arteries, but OH so good to taste, especially ice-cold.... The non-choc milk was also astonishingly good, though I heard many complain who were more accustomed to drinking skim milk. *grins* Hod and I and our sister grew up on a farm, so we KNEW what those flecks meant. smile

Hypno, Gulf War is a large SCA event where two kingdoms, I believe Ansteorra and Trimeris, have a play war where armored fighters and rapier fighters vie for bragging rights for a year. It's one of only a few large events known as wars, of which Pennsic is the largest. Gulf War is so called because it takes place near the Gulf of Mexico.

It's a bit of a big deal for the rapier fighters in my Kingdom, Northshield, because it's a war known for its rapier fighting and Northshield is known for its rapier fighters. Kingdoms compete, openly, to get the Northshield rapier corps as their ally.

I have always wanted to attend Gulf Wars. If my health is up to it I might try next year; it's usually early March, isn't it?

In other SCA news, I've decided I want to replicate my avi outfit currently as a real-life SCA outfit. More as that progresses. *grins*

I have often thought it would be cool if we could have Guild Gatherings in different areas of the world... like make an announcement that anyone in the UK, or the eastern US, or Brazil, or wherever could meet at some central place some Saturday or other... could be fun! I've done that with other groups I've been in--I have now met in person most of the people I've RP'd with in the past. smile

Or maybe if someone knows they're going to a major convention, they could post it somewhere and try to meet up...

I don't live anywhere near anyone on here really (except the people I know who are my friends in the same region). 99% of the people I know here are in the US and I'm in the UK!

It seems I don't live near anyone here either. I'm not in the UK or the US, I'm in Canada. I must say there are not many Medieval or fantsay related happenings around here either.

New York only has one Medieval/Renaissance festival each year during the fall I think... I have yet to go since it is a long drive to get to the general area and something else usually comes up... sweatdrop

Unless you live in the tri-state (NY, Conn, NJ) area of the Northeastern US, there would be no way to meet up easily.

I would like to ask that folks hold a good thought for me... my recent foray to the hospital has led to my neurologist upping the meds on me again; the EEG they did came back still abnormal. *sighs*

On a happier front, the new job is keeping me very busy and all the people seem nice. smile

My mule, RufusElf, is up for voting in the avatar arena; I would appreciate kind comments and high votes! *grin* It's an... unusual representation of the inimitable Rufus ShinRa, I hope you'll get a giggle out of it!

Hey all! I'm not dead! My life is just going bananas for no apparent reason. I've been trying to do far too many things all at once, I think, and not doing any of them particularly well. I just bought myself a piece of moldavite, though, which the nifty book on stones at the place where I work says is good for focus and creativity. Hopefully it will act as a reminder for me (besides, it's pretty green and it actually fell from space!!!! Squeeeeee!!!) I'm still not sure if I buy into the whole crystal vibrations and chakras stuff at all, but it will at least remind me of what I need to focus on, if nothing else. Mind over matter, I say.

Anyways, yeah... I'm not dead.

Gee, isn't that the case!? I also have no way to meet anyone here in an easy way as i live in Guatemala (Central America).

As for me, the latest thing I've gotten into is creating a dragon on "Facebook". I should check on it now that I think about it. Even Mel was kind enough to give me some pointers. Thanks again Mel! wink
