OH THANK GOODNESS. I thought it looked like a cross between a shadow ship and a vorlon planet killer. And I want a Chekhov of my very own. He's a adorable.

Oh gosh, I completely forgot about the planet killers!

@CĂșAnnan - All of that about it being an alternate time line hit a few hours after I had posted that. biggrin Then I felt silly for thinking that. I'm glad they've done something drastic and risky to revitalize the series - I'm looking forward to any more films they do in this alternate time line. It's good to see quality return to Trek.

I didn't catch that about the insignias, but now that you mention it, it would have been nice to see some other designs.

For the record, Chekhov is more my type - young, adorable, smart, and in serious need of hugs and encouragement. stressed

Recursive Paradox

One of my friends tried to call himself a G~ because he likes to travel the country and is musically inclined. Heads rolled. Especially when he tried to use dictionary.com to justify the idiocy he was spouting.
I actually called my boss out on the issue. His boss backed me up and helped explain my position. He didn't say he was sorry, but I don't think it will ever come up again.

Link.
I asked her why she had an ethnic slur in her profile.
She said she didn't know what the hell I was talking about.
I asked a question in the common dialect (it's the kind of thing you should be able to understand no matter which dialect you speak) and her response was "what?".

Yeah. It's a lot tougher for you guys to get that recognition because of how deeply ingrained the G~ word is in popular culture. It's been so sanitized and decontextualized at this point that it's hard to imagine it as a slur until you actually know someone personally who has gone through that treatment. And even then, it's so prominent in American culture that it'll pop up in the most a** backwards places.

One of the characters in an MMO I play is called a G~. Female only, uses a whip and arrows and music (basically a female bard). I would normally complain but as it's a private server they can't change the overall setup of the character classes. x_x They just yank the source material from the primary releases and run it on their server. Tweaking the chars is sort of beyond our admins' skill levels.

At least with the slurs for transgendered people, they're very obviously negative due to the blatant sexual objectification (shemale, dickgirl, etc). So in some ways it's a lot easier for us to fight the slurs levied on us than it is for the Rroma.

I'm dealing with an energy manipulation fluffy in the GD witchcraft thread.

He calls energy work "energy bending" after Avatar the Airbender and claims he can make girls kiss him. Ignoring the obvious massive issue of mind rape, sexual assault and subversion of other people's wills going on, he doesn't seem to have a ******** clue how energy work functions.

I've asked him twice to explain in his own words what positive and negative energy is (the second time after he just said, "it's bad and good energy!") and I have a feeling I'm not going to get an actual answer.

x_x

Why do I go into that thread again?

Edit: Oh and apparently he's done Reiki for a few years. No mention of tradition or attunement or any of that jazz.

Probably the same reason I go into vampire threads in the ED. Because I feel I need to stop the stupid.

I mean, I can claim that I could make guys kiss me, but that doesn't mean I'm not a complete liar.

Yay Scorplett!

And yes, the new Star Trek is BEYOND awesome. I was so happy they made it an alternate universe. And I think the casting was perfect. And Chekhov was so cute, especially when he was running around going, "I can do that!" -- also cute was the little crab guy, especially when he wibbled when Scottie left him.

I've been a trekkie my whole life. When I was seven, I was Offended that they made TNG because OMG that's not ST what the heck are they thinking? I got over it. wink I was such a Trek snob in elementary school. Ha ha ha.

My boss adores me. We're talking a five minute phone rant about how awesome I am.

That made my day so much better!
