I'm really horrible at making long-term plans like that...but if I can know the date of SummerStar 2010 asap I can try to plan and save up.
Likely won't know the date until January. They can't book the site until then.

Ah I see.
I guess all I can say is that I'd try really hard to get out there sweatdrop . I'd hate to say I'd be out there for sure and be a no-show.

What do folks think about making ReCubeCon take place at Summerstar 2010?

If it's at a pagan event, it makes Davit less likely to go. And if he did go, he'd probably just be really grumpy.

However, it makes me want to go more and find out the limits of my new improved "Dealing with crowds" skills.

I'm back from the amazingness of Thailand. The crazy heat/humidity combo nearly killed me, but I still can't wait to go back. Learned how to make Thai food, did some typical jungling activities (rafting, vip cording and the like), and went to an elephant sactuary that was an incredible experience. And got eaten alive by mosquitoes! Great fun, great fun.

And, just like I predicted, we didn't end up getting the tattoos. My mom thought that it would be a nice bounding experience to get cute little matching tattoos... so when I researched them and told her that it wasn't just some cute tattoo, but that they were considered sacred and that you couldn't get just anything, she decided she didn't want to do it after all. It's gotten me very interested in them though, so I'm going to do a lot more research this summer and think about getting one when I go back. Right now I'm thinking about getting a sacred Na instead of a Sak Yant, because generally they're simpler, and this particular one is about kindness and compassion. But I also really like the Yant Bua Gaew, though I can't find as much information about it.

Thai Buddhism was really interesting and something I need to research more. It was completely different than the Seon Buddhism that I study in Korea, which I was expecting, but I didn't realize how different it would be. It seems like a lot of Hindu deities are still very important to the religion, especially Ganesha, who we saw EVERYWHERE! So, more for me to do over the summer!

What are the requirements to be a Christian? Orthodoxy wise.

I know a lot of Orthodox churches hold ethnicity really high when you're looking to join (liturgy is usually done in the language of the country of origin, for instance). The church I did a lot of work with last year was a mission though, and most of the congregation was Dutch, even though it was the Antioch church. If you can find an Antioch church or mission, that'd probably be your best bet. The Antioch churches I've been to have all had very kind and accepting members. I went to the mission for Pascha last year and a couple of women asked me if I'd help them with the choir after I told them I was a music major. Mostly I just suggest visiting a church or a mission and talking to the congregation and the priest.

Here are a couple of links: Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese and Othrodox Church of America. I'm not as familiar with the first, but the OCA has a wonderful Q&A section, and a bunch of articles. It's been over a year since I've looked at either of these though...

Not meaning to take over the chat thread or anything, but I just found out that my fiancee got an interview for today and any good thoughts and such would be greatly welcomed right now. She had a phone interview with them last November, which was going really well until she told them she was trans, at that point they never contacted her again. They kept opening the position, and she kept applying, but they never got back to her until now. It's a hospital job that would get her good money, and it would bring her back to 15 minutes from my university instead of 2 1/2 hours, so we'd finally be able to get an apartment together.
So yeah, anything would be very helpful right now. Thanks!
