4300 to fix my car. Timing belt blew, and when it did, it banged up the rest of the engine.

Can't afford to fix it, not even on credit. Let's hope my parents are willing to give us their car.

edit: And they are. Except they are selling it, because my parents don't just give us things. Half the blue book value, paying them whatever we can from selling for salvage and starting in august $100 a month.

I'll soon be the owner of an 03 Toyota Corolla that gets FANTASTIC MPG.

Good for you. Not the your car dying, but the awesom MPG! My truck died on my way to my parents last fall. They ended up buying me a used SUV that still gets great MPG. They're going to salvage or sell my old truck and then hubby and I have to pay them back the rest. I'm just wondering how long it's going to be before they sell/scrap it.

Are all car problems in this guid happening at once? I just probably totaled my car today leaving college. Didnt see a car coming (seriously, obstructed views suck), and he hit me, just behind my door, and hence, me.

Aparently, even though he was going 30 mph on a 20 mph road, I am liable for the majority of the crash, for "failing to yield to oncoming traffic". Never mind I couldn't ******** see the car rolleyes

I'm never going to understand why car manufacturers STILL insist on putting belts rather than chains in. Like all rubber belts, they're going to blow at some point, and considering the function of the timing belt, it's always going to take the rest of your car with it.

I guess that's the point in still using the rubber belts - you have to buy a new car!

I'm glad you're getting your parents' corolla. Legendary Toyota reliability! Hopefully your car troubles are over!

I hope so too. My husband has a '94 corolla that needs new shocks, but that's really it. With my breeze, I'd been putting in tons of work and it was a 99.

Sorry to hear about your car sad But I'm glad your folks are selling you theirs!

We're still trying to save for another car since my Taurus died in November; thankfully Chris' folks are letting us use their Capri. Which we're thinking about buying at this point anyways.

Just out of curiosity, and I know this might be a long shot, but does anyone else here attend or participate in Native powwows? There's a bunch coming up for me next month that I'm very excited for. It's too bad I don't have any regalia or anything!

@ Fiddler...
Here's hoping a smooth saturn's return! The 20's are awesome, 30's are just plain weird!

@ Poe...
Safe journeys and best of luck... hopefully the mission will be a success!

@Nuri...
Car's that die make me cry :'( I hate timing belts.. I drive so much I have to replace one every year and a half just to avoid it going and shredding half the engine with it! Hopefully you'll have new wheels soon and be safely and hapily motoring on that 66 again in no time wink

Things went well. I networked with other gay and trans folk and lobbied the hardest senator of NY.

I discussed how I had to actually call up the HR departments for the places I was applying to for internships to make sure that my transsexuality isn't an issue. You don't need to do that for being black. Or Jewish. It's ridiculous that I have to.

And it was really nice that no one had a clue I was trans. Apparently I look and sound so good that everyone just assumed natal female lesbian. So when I made it clear I was trans, people were like "...o_O really?"

Huge self esteem booster ^^

Thank you everyone for the good thoughts and support!

If you give me your name to help as a focus, I'll send some reiki your way. 3nodding Good luck.

Well it's past time now but for future reference, Sophie would suffice. Sort of amusing with your screen name.

That and your pic from the other thread will be fine. Just kinda hard to think of something concrete when all I have is a cute lil gaia avvie. xd

Technically, in the Usui tradition you can send reiki to past and future events. I think it has something to do with the zen buddhist idea that time is an illusion. Well, it's easier to theorize than actually believe it, but hey, reiki can only help. I'll do it regardless. heart

Glad to hear it went well!

My univeristy residence was also the Centre for Aboriginal Studies, so I attended a powwow right at the beginning of the year with my friends.

Yum, elk burger... xp

Well, sketchy James didn't call me back about seeing the car. Which is a relief actually with how sketchy, odd and generally red flag raising he had been over the phone.

But I've found another good used one, this time from an actual dealer for under 2 grand. Here's hoping it's a good deal.
