mute_coyote Some strung-out old man pulled a knife on me at a bus stop. I didn't get hurt or anything. He was really out of it, and I think he was just trying to stir s**t up. I pretended not to care about the knife, and he laughed, put it away, and started making awkward, incoherent conversation. Bus came: I got on and so did he ( gonk ). Fortunately, he quickly got distracted talking to other people and got off at a stop way before mine. I told this to my roommate, and she asked me why I hadn't called the police. Frankly, this guy was as stable as a seesaw, and I was the poor schmuck standing in the middle, trying to keep the darn thing balanced. I didn't want to make any sudden movements or do anything that might be interpreted as threatening. Once he got off the bus and disappeared onto some anonymous street off of route 49, I was just relieved he was gone and fixated on getting the rest of the way home safely. Besides, I didn't even know what street he'd gotten off on - not much help for cops. I dunno. I was kinda in "survival mode" the whole time. Talking to friends helped me to decompress. It was partly my own damn fault for being out alone so late. Very, very unsettling. I think I'm going to buy pepper spray. I'm glad you're OK. My husband worries that that will happen to me every weekend I have to work. 4:00 in the morning at a mostly deserted train station then a 10 minute walk to the building makes him nervous.

D< I understand the world today is a bit stupid, but you have a right to go wherever you please about your business, whenever you please. I despise it when people tell me I shouldn't go out late when it's dark because I'm a girl. My brother is allowed, isn't he? Then I don't see why I shouldn't be. D< Stupid inhabitants of this world thinking it's okay to hurt other people. D< *goes to gripe and mutter in a corner* Oh, I'm glad you're okay, as well, of course.

Saw watchmen today. Great film but not -watchmen- great. Then again, fight scenes were brilliant and the portrayal of Rorschach was AMAZING!! heart
And Silk spectre? Holy s**t....you don't get much hotter 0_0

It's being out at night.
It isn't the Haunted Woods or anything like that.
We have lots of crazies around here, mostly harmless.
The rest I am confident I can protect myself from.

I liked the Watchmen movie.
Except the woman who kept covering her child's eyes and loudly proclaiming how indecent Dr. Manhattan's glowing blue anatomy was.
I mean seriously you take your kid to a rated R movie which you obviously haven't researched, and you get upset over the male nudity?

We saw a guy get a boiling oil bath, and you were okay with it.
I personally would rather live in a world where human biology was acceptable, and boiling people in oil isn't. Messed up priorities there.
I'm not okay with a part of my body being considered less acceptable than cooking someone to death with fryer grease. stare
I wonder if Colbert knows... ninja

Thanks for the support everybody. heart I'm a little rattled, but doing fine. The family came by today for the annual Bicycle Expo and we went to that for a while and then to lunch. Finals start Monday, so I have to study for them. My parents have always had this anxiety about me going solo anywhere after dark, even though I grew up in a pretty safe town. I guess some of that rubbed off on me, too. That, plus this is the first big city I've ever lived in, and I've been told over and over that I should never be out alone in the city after dark. Was it a particularly large knife? confused Not very big. It was a type of switch-blade. Those are illegal in this state. I think I handled the situation pretty well: I stayed collected, and I think my feigned calm helped the guy calm down, too. Still, it was the kinda situation that really makes me wish I had some sort of training I could reference.

I have to make new garb for Davits supposed knighting in May. I am trying to do pieces that'll overlap with dance (thank goodness we're a medieval fantasy group) and I haven't the foggiest idea what to do other than "A REALLY BIG SKIRT, headpiece and veil"
