Recursive Paradox

They prescribed water. Either my doctor is an idiot or I am. >.<

Well... considering all that, it does sort of make sense. At least it's a very inexpensive prescription, and not a future surgery bill. 3nodding Hope you feel better soon.

My co-workers Ipod just said "Help me I'm in hell". How did that happen, considering that you can't type anything on an Ipod?

Hurrah for free trips to Chicago and Boulder!

... Now if only it was a free trip to Chicago/Boulder because I got accepted into the graduate program instead of being for interviews. At least they are considering me though, so hurrah!

Too bad its chicago, and not ....oh about 3 hours south. smile

Nuri, are you a Chicagoan? xD

I know people in Chicago, as well as one of my good friends is going to study nursing over there.

Grew up in the suburbs. Now live in Bloomington-Normal. Chicago is a train ride away (Romuel visits me all the time!)

Ah, good old B-N. I really need to visit down there at some point. Maybe over the summer I'll talk my girlfriend into coming with me, and we can pop in on the combat club *goes digging for his garb*

Nuri, is there a big college/university in that area that specializes in nursing? ninja

Illinois State University in B-N has the Mennonite School of Nursing, which is a BS program and very very good. My friend went through it and now works in the local ER.

Also, my cousins live in a Chicago suburb known as Naperville, which is full of rich upper-class brats.

That's where I grew up, actually, and had my first adult TAing job. You'd be surprised at the level on non-rich upper-class brats. It's a decent minority.

That's the place my friend (and neighbour coincidentally) is going to.

I like Naperville. It's aesthetically pleasing and has a nice feel to it. It also has a most ridiculous and most delicious tasting ice cream place I've ever been to. xD It's just that I've heard certain things from my uncle about it that make me quite disappointed in it. From urban planning/environment major that I'm doing, those things make me cringe even more. gonk Bus routes....

@Cu: Macwhoring is good. biggrin

The water is helping (so I guess I'm the idiot x_x) and the cough is cooling down a bit.

On macs vs. windows PC's vs. Linux:

How do these three compare on gaming (Ragnarok Online, Diablo II, Warcraft III, Starcraft, etc etc), programming (I often have to ssh into the servers at the school to do my work), word processing (I do a lot of writing), art management (my scanner is an HP) and touch ups (I normally use Photoshop but I'm considering switching to GIMP)

Because I'm going to be building my own desktop soon and I want to figure out what OS to use.

I cannot really comment on Linux but:
Gaming: Windows. Seriously, the only thing my Mac right now lacks are games, because I only have Spore and SimCity 4.
Programming: I'm not sure. I do believe howver that my mom actually said that Linux was good for programming.
Word Processing: Either really.
Art Management/Touch Up: Macs. Seriously. All my professors are urban planners in practice as well in PhD, and they all use Macs. All the university computer labs for our program are just full of Macs. I do a fair bit of graphic work on the side and my Macbook and Mac really never freezes in the middle of doing an important thingy.

We have bus routes? Very nice buses yes, but bus routes.
Which ice cream place? Colonial?

Hallo Tea, good to hear from you again, good luck on that. 3nodding

I've found most of my ills can be solved with water, a good meal, and plenty of rest...
But then again, my body is sorta freakish.

The reason my uncle said that Naperville refuses to have a proper, and actually functioning bus system, is because he was told "poor people use buses and we don't want them bringing their crime over here". Which Nuri, goes against my current teachings which is to consider the greater good than to individual whims.

Ice Cream? I believe it is called Stone Cold Creamery?

Yeah, that sounds about right. I started to see actual bus routes about when I left....which was also when they started bringing section 8 and low income housing to the area.

Naperville is a strange, strange place. Voted great place to raise kids, but few outlets for teenagers. Oddly permissive and liberal school systems, but overly conservative. Churches and Banks or a school on every corner.

And there are coldstones everywhere. I have one near my place too!

Recursive Paradox

Use Windows for this. While companies have been making OS X versions of games, since the architecture is now the same since the swap over to Intel, you're not gauranteed to get a version of your game for OS X.

Recursive Paradox
programming (I often have to ssh into the servers at the school to do my work)

OS X is BSD under the hood, the Darwin Branch. So it's Unix. SSH comes as part and parcel of how it works.

Recursive Paradox
word processing

Open Office 3 went Native for all intel macs.

Recursive Paradox
art management (my scanner is an HP)

Quite well.

Recursive Paradox
and touch ups (I normally use Photoshop but I'm considering switching to GIMP)

The GiMP hasn't gone Native yet, but there's an X-11 distro so it'll run sans-problem.

Recursive Paradox
Because I'm going to be building my own desktop soon and I want to figure out what OS to use.

Given your position, I'd use linux.
It's easier to custom build a computer for linux support than it is for mac support. Mac build their computers and their software. So if your graphics card isn't supported by the OS, tough s**t.

Note: We do not have Coldstones in Canada. And while I love my Laura Secord milkshakes, Coldstones are just amazing.

I agree it is odd. I get a weird feeling whenever I visit and I go for walks with grandma or cousins. And I always ask so many questions. My cousins always give me the "shut up" stare when I ask question that could potentially turn everybody in the vicinity on me. xD

I think it's slightly creepy because everything looks the same, the grass is actually green on everyone's lawns, and they actually have the stereotypical mailboxes in front. xD
