It's like asking for "ein gift" in Germany, well, sort of...

I'm afraid to ask...

It's asking for poison... though apparently it's more correct to say "das gift", according to my friend who's in German *shrug*

Oh. Whew! I thought it was something dirty or something.

I should really get my head to climb out of the gutter. I understand I'm ruining the view for others...

Berz.
"das Gift" would be the poison where as "ein Gift" would be a poison... or would that be eines Gift... oh, I always did terrible with endings...

Awww... but the gutter is such a fun place to be!

It's a project that is just starting up. We're actually having our second meeting just tomorrow night. Basically, the idea is to construct a living, alternate history for steampunk enthusiasts. The current year is 1900. We're outlining a fairly detailed history for our own back yard here in the midwest and leaving the rest of the world on a bare-bones sort of a history (basically, the French won Canada, the British retained the American colonies and expanded west to the Mississippi, the Native American nations unified and created a new country west of the Mississippi, and Russia grabbed a bit of the American Southwest just for kicks). Through our LJ communities, we've attracted some interest in other areas, so it may grow, if we're lucky.

In order to make this all happen, we're going to work on a number of projects, including hosting mystery-solving sessions at conventions, writing short stories, and perhaps even filming a short film or two.

Basically, we're steampunk folks who want to do more than just dress up. There aren't a lot of activities for steampunk yet. Ideally, one day, we might even have full on Steam Century events.

Berz.

Sounds like my sewing machine is going to have a LOT of work when I finally get it back! All the great pictures... *the inspiration*... *oi* I dislike not being next to my machine!

I've got a nice listing of patterns that would be good for steampunkies. I have more historical clothing in my closets than modern "street clothes"... smile

So, a Rennie could be a brand of indigestion or a person who goes to Renaissance fairs, does battle reenactments and such? Weird!

Good to see Drizzt back on the guild. I was wondering what had happened to him... neutral

That's weird, I don't see how Berz could think that "Ein Gift" was something dirty. Oh well...

See ya Mel! I hope you have a good time!

Since Mel is away, I suppose I should also PM Jasta about the thing I just PMed Mel about. 3nodding

It's freezing cold and dark and rainy outside and I don't wanna leave the house.

This has been your fine whine for the day.

*grumble*

Anyone have one of those days? You know the type. Where you just want to pack up and leave the country because your government is run by a group of totally incompetent, bought out, self-interested bastards?

I'm having one of those days. Canada is looking really nice right now.

My state just elected a guy to the state supreme court who campaigned on the statement that the incumbent, while working as a public defender, did his job and had evidence that was illegally gathered thrown out (read: "In this state, you're guilty until proven innocent and anyone who says otherwise is soft on crime."). I seriously can't believe the campaign worked. Doesn't anyone understand the constitution these days?

In other news, the big, vaunted economic stimulus package that everyone is supposed to be getting? Yeah, I'm not getting it. Why? Because I'm poor. Am I a dependent on my parents' taxes? No. Did I make a tiny, little pittance of income and fall into the category of people who could really use the money? Yes. Am I getting the "guaranteed minimum $300?" Nope? Not a penny of it. Further more, the people who have the most money get the most amount of money out of this deal. Yet another case of the rich getting richer and the poor getting screwed.

Argh!

Okay, done ranting for now.

I hear you there, Berz... I just learned that I'm going to have to pay $3500.00 MORE dollars in taxes, over and above what they have already taken from me month by month... and that means I will a) not have enough this month to pay all my bills and b) will have to play catch-up for the next couple of months. sad I have a referral bonus coming because I brought a friend's resume to my company, and it will entirely go to paying taxes--and even then I won't have enough. *sigh*

It's good to have a job, but sheesh... sad

So, if we can scrape all our money together do you think we could find ourselves a small island to buy?

Yeah, I haven't really fantasized about that scenario at all. Nope, not me!

I am so in on this ~ I cook, I do dishes, I clean. I can't garden because I have to stay out of the sun - ((yes I'm very pale IRL)) - My dogs would have to come with.

We need to figure out a way to make money anyway ~ If the Amish can do it... So can WE!

If we lived on an island - we'd need to get DM a nice boat.... 3nodding

I'm a pretty darn good cook and baker, if I do say so myself... smile and I can bring and breed the horses, and I know how to raise goats, cows, and chickens... maybe we can breed chocobos and have horse v. chocobo races! smile

I can garden! I thoroughly enjoy working with plants. And goats? I heart goats! We should also have a few cats in case there are rodent problems. Or maybe this is just me as a cat person speaking.

hmmm... I like this idea! My friends and I have been talking about making home bases to come back to, since we all want to travel the world. This island plan in intriguing... I will have to bring it up. The links are great, btw! There's one in Scotland that looks extremely promising. It even has canons!
