We share a common language and our cultures do overlap, but America is still a forgeign country. My husband didn't so much experience culture shock as much as he experienced Tea-Shock. Tea the drink or Tea you? If drink, then I can relate. xD Tea me. He didn't try to infuse you into hot water, did he? >.> Do baths count? Yes.

Does anyone know whether the song, "The Islander" by Nightwish (current Nightwish with the shitty new singer, not old school awesome Nightwish) off the album Dark Passion Play was influenced by one of the sets of folk music in Northern Europe (Norwegian, Swedish, Icelandic if it counts as NE, Irish, or whatever)?
And if so, what set of folk music and where can I find samples? I am intrigued by the song (whether a bastardization or not) and want to explore the sources more.

I almost got lost in my university. I was trying to find an indoor shortcut from one building to another so I don't have to go outside, and got lost in Engineering. xD

In other news,boy jeans are comfy. I was given a pair to cut up for projects, they looked about the right size so i tried them on. Yeah, they're not getting cut up.

All Wikipedia says is that it was influenced by Folk Music. Unfortunately, its the only song that Marco wrote for the band, so its hard to tell what influences he was drawn by. I think it is Irish though, as I seem to remember that the various instruments were Irish. And I'd hardly consider the new Nightwish shitty. Dark Passion Play isn't as good as Wishmaster or Century Child, but overall, its better then Once.

That's the most basic pronunciation I could come up with, but it's not exactly right.
The 'ch' at the end is like a softer, less gravelthroated version of the 'ch' in 'chutzpah', but most Irish people are too lazy to soften it.

Recursive Paradox Does anyone know whether the song, "The Islander" The singing sounds like Irish folk as does the tin whistle. The construction is very similar to Irish folk, the word structure sounds. Very Jimmy McCarthy sounding. If I had been presented with it and told it was an Irish band, I'd have believed them.

It's like you have far too many letters and then you decide to ignore most of them and go for whatever you think might be it if you see the words printed in the Roman alphabet and then hear them said, yeah! I only know.. uh.. I only remember one word in Irish at the moment, but it's pronounced 'pusheen' and spelled (in the Roman alphabet, anyway) as 'puisieen' or something.. Not sure what it meant anymore, though.. Kittens?
