Yeah, they were filming up here, not too far from where I live a couple weeks ago, in Columbus. The news has been total Depp-mania about it, too.

Hey Berz, could you tell us a little something about that steampunk-y online game that shows up in your sig from time to time? Looks interesting!

I'll even provide links!

It's a project that is just starting up. We're actually having our second meeting just tomorrow night. Basically, the idea is to construct a living, alternate history for steampunk enthusiasts. The current year is 1900. We're outlining a fairly detailed history for our own back yard here in the midwest and leaving the rest of the world on a bare-bones sort of a history (basically, the French won Canada, the British retained the American colonies and expanded west to the Mississippi, the Native American nations unified and created a new country west of the Mississippi, and Russia grabbed a bit of the American Southwest just for kicks). Through our LJ communities, we've attracted some interest in other areas, so it may grow, if we're lucky.

In order to make this all happen, we're going to work on a number of projects, including hosting mystery-solving sessions at conventions, writing short stories, and perhaps even filming a short film or two.

Basically, we're steampunk folks who want to do more than just dress up. There aren't a lot of activities for steampunk yet. Ideally, one day, we might even have full on Steam Century events.

We're pretty laid back about the whole thing. Basically, if you want to participate, the best way to do it is to join the two Livejournal communities. They're a little slow-moving, so it's not overwhelming or anything. And if you want to put together another airship crew in your neck of the woods, go ahead and do it. And, of course, let us know how things go. We'd be tickled pink to see other people taking up the cause elsewhere and we'd adore hearing about it.

We had our annual Rennie feast this weekend, and my really good friends got engaged!!!!!! The boyfriend (who isn't really a part of Ren and just hangs out with us because his girlfriend is a Rennie) stood up on a table while we were dancing, told us all how wonderful his girlfriend is then jumped off the table and got down on one knee. It was the most wonderful thing biggrin
Just one more reason that makes me love being a Rennie!

Hey everybody! I know I said this before but I'm finally back. For more info on this you can always check out the thread about the "holiday dates" at the main forum.

Hey there! What's a Rennie, exactly?

Something to do with renaissance I expect.

However, in the UK, there's a brand of indigestion drug called Rennie.
Completely gives the wrong impression here though. neutral

Yeppers!

And can I state how much I love it when language does silly things like that?

It's like asking for "ein gift" in Germany, well, sort of...

Oh lovely, I'll have to keep that in mind!
A Rennie would be a person who goes to Renaissance faires, does battle reenactments and whatnot.

Yeah I guessed that. I wish I could go to renaissance fairs, but unfortunately they're few and far between in the area of the UK I live in.

It's asking for poison... though apparently it's more correct to say "das gift", according to my friend who's in German *shrug*

Oh. Whew! I thought it was something dirty or something.

I should really get my head to climb out of the gutter. I understand I'm ruining the view for others...
