Do tell.

We were reading book 3 of the iliad, where an oath is taken.
He claimed that they sacrificed a white ram and a black ewe because the ewe symbolized how either paris or menelaus would die.
It bugged me for a few days until I went to look it up, and found reasons as to why the ewe would be black in that context.

It led to various oath related disscussions, the details of which are hazy, and a couple of arguments, which I won with the help of off the top of my head citations and google books. xD

~hugs~ It won't always be that way. After you are driving for a solid two weeks or so you stop doing that.

Thanks. I hope so. I only get intermittent practice a couple times a week. I'm always shaking so bad from being so tense the whole time! xp I'll recognize that all my muscles are tense, relax, and notice they're tense again thirty seconds later. rolleyes
I'm speaking from experience on this one.

Also- there is nothing so fun as being new to stick- getting caught on a hill by a red light, and having a cop pull up behind you only a foot away from your rear bumper. sweatdrop

Okay, so I've been trying to go back to school of late... so I took what should have been a fun and easy course for me... World History... except, the hair brained instructor, in addition to teaching out of his own, nearly $200 book, is using the class as a pure pogrom. We have glazed over just about everything so far. Especially Cyrus the Greats contributions to human rights. He did so with the express purpose of getting to "history that matters" the Hellenic city states, especially Athens, and Rome. Which he has decided to teach as tho they were a single block of history, and happily ignoring the actually results of the Peloponnesian War. He has managed to lambaste every aspect of Hellenic and pre-Christian Roman life he has mentioned. Also, he has universalized certain regional or class practices. I'm not sure whether he is going to use this a forum to paint Christianity as the only source of decency, or if he intends to use this as a jumping point to attack all of Western civilization (which seems to be all he cares to teach about, all that "matters"), which, as he has made clear, has nothing to do with the Celts, Germans, Nordic, or Baltic people at all, and is purely the child of the "Classic world".
There are Classes offered for "History of the Classic World" and "Western Civilization".
I would have hoped that we could have touched at least on Persia, India, or China by now... at least mentioning that they exist. I have given up on any history lessons on the peoples of the Americas.
When I brought up my concerns, and my exacerbation at his one sided means of teaching, he told me that if I didn't like his class, I could leave. Something he has encouraged, as I am apparently disruptive to his class. I'm sorry I paid for "World History" I want a refund. This isn't High School, this sort of $#!& shouldn't be happening.

I'm just waiting... waiting I say. Like unto a trap-door spider... until that glorious time when he finally snarks off with Well do you want to/think you can teach the class? At that point, I will respond with a resounding Yes!. I'm building my lesson plan as I type right now. twisted

I still want to see one History Professor at my college back up his ******** assertions on the Norse. He claims that they were nothing more then bloodthirsty savages, and were pillaging around the Holy Land during the Crusades, which led to many knights being afraid to go.

I think I was told he got his Doctorate from Oxford too gonk

I don't even have my ******** degree yet, and I could do a better job of that s**t.

Sparta ******** won the war guys. I don't care if you like 'culture' and they like broth, they ******** won it, ******** accept it, ATHENS LOST. THEY WERE LOSERS. THEY FAILED. THE DEMOCRACY FAILED.

If I were there, I'd go over his head, because he's not even doing the job a CLASSICAL HISTORY CLASS does. We start well before the city states. Last time, we started with the ******** Happarans.

Yes, we are purely a child of the Classical world. That's why we vote by ******** crackpot.

I'm going to have a nightmare. eek

I'm taking ceramics right now, and I'm just trying to learn the wheel. (Handbuilding is easy, sigh.) I've decided my goal for this term on the wheel -- aside from making something that's not lumpy, collapsed or full of holes -- is to make a functional tea bowl.

Talking to my academic adviser on Monday about transferring to UNL. Once I'm in a school on the semester system, I may have more time to post on Gaia. sweatdrop

UNL, eh?
Remind me to give you a heads up about the Cacophony Society meetings once I get them running on a predictable schedule. Probably half of the people I've mentioned it to so far either attend or work there, or spend a lot of time in the campus/downtown area.

Doubt it, since I'm still in New York and won't be attending UNL until spring semester at the earliest. But it sounds awesome. ^_^
