patch99329 What new ethnic slur is this? I'm afraid 'T~' Dosen't inform me of all that much. xd "Tinkers" I would imagine. The Irish travellers will often refer to themselves as tinkers when, and only when, they are workers of tin. To refer to all of them as tinkers is sorta like referring to all plantees (those who aren't travellers {be they pavee or no}) as computer programmers. It's racist.
Some of them. Some of them are English. The are not of the Gael, they themselves hold better understanding of where they came from but they don't tend to talk about it with plantees. Their language is a combination of a cant dialect of goedelic and saxon, I believe.
patch99329 I ask because the term is used pretty widely in this area. But not to describe a particular travelling culture. From my understanding of how it is used round here, it is used for any travelling group regardless of ethnicity or culture, if they move onto private land, leave rubbish and s**t everywhere or something similar. The Pavees can be quite considerate. If they can't get a holding site (that is a specific plot of land with ameneties) they will often rent land or work on farm land for right to hold in fallow land. The land is left, in these cases, in as good a condition as it was found. In my memory, we have had two seperate groups of Pavees where I was growing up. The first came back because their reception was so positive. Alas, in between the Pavees the first and second time, some English new age travellers came and destroyed a farmer's field and assaulted him and his wife.
patch99329 There was a group a while back that got loads of horses taken from them by the RSPCA because they treated them like s**t and raced them for bets. From what I understand of Pavee culture, that's actually forbidden. They're allowed to bet, but mistreating a horse is not only damaging your wealth, it's damaging the wealth of your children.

error[dot]exe PoeticVengeance If I anthropomorphize (sp?) an Aspect, just because it makes channeling its energies easier, not because I believe that it has human qualities for reals, does that make me polytheistic? O_o No more than a Chaote is for creating servitors, I imagine.
Now I need to look up a Chaote...
TeaDidikai So, for the sake of irony, zOMG switched the ethnic slur of one group for the ethnic slur of another group. Nicu is no longer a G~, he's now a T~- an ethnic slur for the Pavee. gonk
What's a T~? *Googles*
I could only find a racial slur that started with K for the Pavee. o_O

sol_oriens Celeblin Galadeneryn sigh I had a post, but gaia ate it. Basically, my prof doesn't like the terms 'man and 'woman' given that she's had students over humanise the Gods, and after a greek myth class which was opened to an option to philosophy students that proceded to do just that, I can understand. *waves fist angrily at gaia) Stupid post eater. Gotcha -- sometimes I relate to the gods in human terms, because well -- I'm human. This is how I know to relate, even though I know they are far different from we humans.
I know that the Aspects, which can be loosely compared to deities in my path, are not human in any way unless they're a specific Aspect of a specific human trait. And then it's just that trait.
I do admit to applying a certain level of anthropomorphization to them to comprehend them better. But I remain aware that it's nothing more than a tool to understand not actual knowledge regarding that Aspect.

Maze PoeticVengeance What's a T~? *Googles* I could only find a racial slur that started with K for the Pavee. o_O Poetic: "Tinkers." I haven't found the one with the K, though. o: Which one's that?
Ah. The one with the K is "Knacker." I guess apparently the word "Pikey" is also a racial slur for various Irish groups and the word "Chav" originally included them and the Rroma.
TeaDidikai CuAnnan did a bit about it above.
Ah dang I missed him writing that.
