Yay, someone else knew of Too Human. ^^

Just curious, what do you mean by its flaws? Gameplay or the Norse bits?

The Norse bits are interesting, with how the Aesir evolve on a technological level as the humans do. But in the way of plot, it comes across really sloppy. Granted, I'm not too far into it.

But...the fighting! You can only heal if you are of a certain class, so dying is a pretty frequent experience. There are no potions that heal your HP, you basically have to hope and pray you get lucky and an enemy drops some health after you kill him, of if you find a crystal that has health in it instead of bounty. Good luck with that, though. sweatdrop

The first dungeon is great, but as you progress to the next one, it's almost as if all the leveling you do isn't enough, and you get killed in one hit a lot, so you have to sit through the Valkyrie's Descent every few minutes (and that loses its novelty after the first few times you die, believe me). And if you get jumped by two huge ******** and enemies that explode as soon as your sword cuts them, you just want to turn off the game.

It's not that it's difficult, it's that the battle system is flawed from nearly every direction. The combat isn't conductive to enemies that take more than one hit at all.

Don't get me wrong, the skill trees are pretty solid, visiting the Norns is interesting, and the system the game has of fusing runes into weapons and armor is awesome.

But I'm not sure that's enough to make me want to keep playing. I still need to try co-op, though. I'm hoping it's the game's saving grace.

I know that dyscalculia is harder to diagnose. While my optometrist had noticed the dyslexia early on, most of my teachers didn't even consider dyscalculia for a couple years after that.

Significantly harder. People forget that dyslexia is a spectrum, so many don't realize that disorders such as dyscalculia exist. My roommate had a lot of difficulty with her teachers, especially math, because she reads so well. They wouldn't even consider the possibility.

Absolutely. I am great with language and writing and reading. I've always overachieved there - I even went so far as to be an English major. But numbers confound me; my biggest problem being I constantly reverse numbers out of order when copying them or writing them down. They look correct to me, but they aren't. I can memorize methods and formula fairly well, but I often just couldn't write the numbers down correctly.

I had math teachers go so far as to call me a behavioral problem, because I was obviously not trying to pass math, as opposed to the high marks I got in every other class. They never even dreamed it was possible I was trying my best and still failing.

I hated math and science because I couldn't keep the numbers in order to get the right answers. I did really well in physics, though - it didn't matter if my answers were right or wrong, as long as I used the right formula in getting there.

How debasing. Here I would tend to think that if you had to teach someone, there's no way they could be a viable candidate to replace you.

I wouldn't think so. Reason being there's a lot of things at work that the other staff wouldn't know needs to be done because it's fallen into the 'Niamh takes care of that' category. This stuff needs to be pointed out to the noobling. Also it means that anything confusing gets cleared up before I go and there's nobody to bail her out or take up the slack while she gets used to the switchboard and stuff.

And just out of sheer morbid curiosity - I can has label?

Sounds like the difference between Classical and Church Latin. Different enough to drive you bonkers.

(my brother and I once each read a passage aloud; then claimed that the other was pronouncing everything WRONG)
You mean one of you rightly pointed out that the other was wrong, and the other trade to peddle blasphemic Ecclessiastical crap in his defense, right? wink

I swear, if one more damned person tells me "Oh, you know Latin! You mean like 'Vinnie Viddie Vicchi' (said like mocchi) right?" heads will roll. stare

I hate it when I wake up and can't remember what is real and what is dream.

My ship got into difficulty and got we got rescued by a scottish 'shaman'(the english language needs a word for that) on the island called something that sounded like 'ingwaz' or 'iwaz'.

Is ingwaz a real island?

In other news, my throat hurts really bad, and the glands in my throat are all swollen. >.<

I have that problem with dreams all the time now, which is new. But only after I've taken any painkillers in the morning, and gone back to sleep - I've got too many aches and pains to sleep well every night, anymore.

I have dreams that are so perfectly plausible that I can't tell if they're real life or dream. I feel like I'm hallucinating through them, which I don't in other dreams. And the time on the clocks in these dreams is the same as the actual time in waking life. It's so bloody confusing.

Regarding your dream, I don't think they're islands, but "ingwaz", or "eihwaz" are the names of Elder Futhark runes...which you may already be well aware of. redface

I'm sorry you're sick! Feel better soon.

Hey Deo! Do you know anything about Narrative Theory? I uh, stumbled on it while trying to find a hated professor, and it seems interesting. It seems like Hillman might find its way in there.

Also, at Ilstu, there is an English Grad student named Joeseph Campbell. He teaches in narrative theory (and has a reading on trans issues that's really interesting), sci-fi, adolescent lit, comics, and greek and roman mythology. I think I may have an academic crush.
