Ultraviolett1127 BlueRoseTorn Ultraviolett1127 ARGH! She has now made up her own mock petition to have the word "blond" be considered a slur scream I just thought she was stupid, but I now officially want to punch that stupid b***h in her baby-maker. ... Jesus. Tap-dancing. Christ. gonk I know! The even worse part is she has 2 signatures already! I dont think there is a way in any language on the face of the Earth to describe the shear facepalm-ery of that thread.
I'm almost tempted to join that debate now, but I'd either: 1) Make them confused 2) Somehow flame them and get banned

I know this is hardly the place for it, but I imagine y'all will at least be able to appreciate the principle of this matter, if not the particulars.
I collect ancient weaponry. I train with ancient weaponry. I am a member of 1 international, 2 national, and 3 local/state based historical and martial communities. I have trained in the use of a multitude of weaponry for more than a decade now. The list of what I have actually learned, from who, and which training manuals, authentic to their time, that we have used, are exhaustive and hardly the point of my rant...
Competition fencing is as divorced from combat as modern yo-yo tricks are from the weapons original uses in hunting and warfare. So, when some miserable little athlete, citing his Olympic medals in Sport fencing, references himself as an accredited source on his blatant lambasting of the fighting arts in Europe from approximately 900-1300, it enrages me. His name is Richard Cohen, and his book By the Sword is rank offal, unfit for use in a bonfire or to wipe the $#!& from my @$$. The worst part is, so many people, ignorant of the truth of how fighting works, how modern fencing is not a martial art, and how museum curators, such as Charles Ffoulkes who had never engaged in combat, much less the been trained to fight using the exquisite weapons they one day hefted while re-arranging their display, declared they were heavey and unwieldly and stated so as "an authority", will accept these blandishments, place them right next to the (oh so accurately named) Idiots Guide to the Crusades (which includes descriptions of 20-30lb swords, which, by the way, we have never found any evidence of existing) as a reliable source on the matter.
I'm in a huff right now.
I want to call Mr Champion Olympic fencer out. Real duel, real blades, and show him how truely ignorant of the fighting arts he is. Not for lack of effort, but for lack of him responding. I'd even defer to his age, and allow him to send any one of his students to fight me. To show that his entire style is failure as a fighting art. There was a time, when such a blasphemous text would have been rewarded with a propper fight, when people couldn't publish such slander about the Art of the Blade, when those who would claim to be authorities on the way of battle would have to back it up with steel... but that era is long past now. Now anyone can say anything and claim to be authorities on the matter just because they were endorsed by Oprah, or work in a warehouse, or have engaged in an activity centuries removed from the topic they speak on.
I'm finished sharing now. sweatdrop

FTW!:
reapersun Hello guys :B I hope you don't mind if I write a bit casually about this issue; I'm a little off with my words sometimes and I don't want anyone to think I'm being offensive. I'm just trying to keep things simple and clear as possible. So, as the person mostly responsible for Nicolae, I want to clarify; he is of course absolutely not intended to be a racist stereotype. In fact, he's not necessarily supposed to be from any specific group; those groups don't exist in Gaia lore. He's from an unnamed fictional group of travelers, the nature of which hasn't been revealed or even developed at all. As for him being seedy, underhanded, greedy, and an overall jerk of a character... It's just the type of person he is. I didn't mean for this single character to give the impression that there is a whole group of grifters and thieves roaming around Gaia. Nic was probably kicked out of whatever group he came from because of his bad qualities, tbh. As for the word "gypsy"... I knew from the start that it was technically an offensive term, and I have been very careful not to use it onsite in relation to him because of that, not simply because it's offensive, but also because it links him to a real life culture, much like calling him Irish or something like that would. However, I don't have the opportunity to write or even check every bit of text that goes out about him (it's just not my business or my job), and the term gypsy was tossed around when describing him, if only to get the concept across quickly, so it's not surprising it ended up on the site, probably put there by someone who just did not know it was a derogatory term. I apologize for that, and I'll try to show this thread around and make certain the term isn't used again, and perhaps even removed from the site. That is certainly long overdue. Once again, I want to say I meant no offensive. Though I'm not terribly knowledgeable, I love what little I know about nomadic people, and have a lot of respect for their culture and way of life; unfortunately, in terms of fiction, I also tend to love the bad guy type of character, so here it was just an unfortunate clash of interests. I'll try to think a bit more responsibly about my choices in the future. I hope this misunderstanding won't continue to sour your view of the character. I hope if you continue to hate him, it's rather because he's a b*****d, not an ethnic slur.

SpaceTerminal Destiny Tea, I don't know whether to be impressed by the GCD, or just irritated by that thread. You know- it wasn't until I was posting in the thread that I got even a hint from the developers that they had any intention to take action. I'll take it as a win.
Quote: To keep at you for two pages without getting really frustrated, and then just plain out ignoring you. xD In a broader scale, we're dealing with all these very complex concepts of entitlement, subtle institutionalized racism and a host of other concepts.
Quote: I think that's the first time I've seen anyone outside of the ED and ED related guilds that coherent in an argument. xD Heh. I was about to point you to the Church of Mod- but they are ED Related.

Ultraviolett1127 Taliah Ultraviolett1127 EDIT: ARGH! She has now made up her own mock petition to have the word "blond" be considered a slur scream I just thought she was stupid, but I now officially want to punch that stupid b***h in her baby-maker. Eww... I hope I didn't somehow entice that. My redhead thread will sometimes surface to the first page, and I hope that she didn't draw her "inspiration" from it. gonk Actually, I think Tea cited it to show that girl that blonds aren't the only ones subject to discrimination based on hair color 3nodding
Oh ^^ Well, I feel much better about that now, actually. Was a little worried I helped to fuel her rather silly fire.
