Thorngaze's tail twitched nervously.
"Would the clan accept me?" he thought, leaning strangely on his left paw to prevent his wretched claw from touching the ground.
"Firesong." he purred, like he was still a apprentice.
"How are you?"

Lightningpaw was sitting the clearing of the camp, hoping that he could begin training soon. He surely knew that he couldn't exactly help in the war to come, but he still wanted to help the clan in anyway possible.

He decided to look around, wondering where Warstorm was. He noticed Thrushpaw near Kindlestar, Firesong, and Dawnlight. They're probably planning out the war, but now....what to do, what to do.

Sharpclaw looked at Thorngaze with welcoming eyes,she knew what it was like to come back to the clan and wonder if they would welcome her back.

Warstorm saw Thorngaze enter camp Good we could use another medicine cat

As a raspy voice sounded behind her and a strange yet familiar scent filled Kindlestar's nostrils, the ginger and black leader turned around, her eyes big with shock as she saw a thin tabby tom looking at her, addressing her.

The moment she heard the name Thorngaze, her yellow eyes lit up and she looked him over. There was no doubt about it, this was indeed Firesong's medicine cat apprentice, Thorngaze.

Unlike warriors, medicine cats received their warrior name while they were still apprentices, as they were perfectly capable of healing the Clan and were of age, but the oldest was still the one whom StarClan usually chose to talk to, although this was not always the case.

"It is good to see you, Thorngaze. It looks like not even twolegs can keep you prisoner," she purred, pleased that he had gotten back to camp, despite his looks. "As you say, it has been far too long. However, I suggest you eat, take a rest, and let Firesong take a look at you to make sure you were not badly injured in your journey back."

Kindlestar turned her eyes to Firesong, and noticed that the ginger tabby was speechless. Her whiskers twitched as she was glad that StarClan had given them the first good omen in moons, as the arrival of their medicine cat apprentice could not have been better timed, as the Clan needed good news after the tragedy that had transpired that day. "I am sure you two have-"

"Thorngaze?" Dawnlight interrupted. He had been close by, and had seen the skinny cat entering. His first instinct had been to rip the throat out of the intruder, but something about his scent and eyes looked familiar. It wasn't until he heard the voice he was sure.

The large tom couldn't believe his eyes. His littermate, whom had always been one of the few cats that he respected, was back. His eyes gleamed happily, but he didn't dare tackle him with his regular play fight greeting, as the medicine cat looked frail and weak, almost as though if the wind itself would carry him away. How had he made it to camp was a mystery all by itself.

The sight of his littermate filled him with joy.
Something he hasn't experienced on his journey.
Only cold, rain, and loneliness was present for him.

Thorngaze blinked at Kindlestar's words, his tail gently quivering with curiousity.
"I will." he mumbled, dipping his head.
But his words felt like lies coming from his mouth.
Why was the air was so full of tension before he padded in?
He wanted to know but he knew it's best to remain silent for now.

He suppressed a small chuckle when his brother interrupted Kindlestar.
Dawnlight was still the same.

"Dawnlight," The tabby tom meowed with such warmth.
"It's nice to see you again." before turning towards Kindlestar.
He wouldn't want her last words go to waste.

 

[Nights of Nyx]

Midnightpaw turned around to see a new cat walk into camp. As far as she could tell, he seemed like a loner, but his scent was quite familiar, she just didn't know how. Is he a cat I knew as a loner, or a cat who used to be in camp when I was still a couple moons old. Well, not like I'm all grown up, but maybe he hasn't been here for a couple moons. She nodded to herself, agreeing with what she just thought after arguing with herself in her head.

Firesong purred in delight. She was worried about his injuries, but those would be taken care of quickly. She was overjoyed to have her apprentice back. "Thorngaze, we've missed you so much!"

Duskwind couldn't believe her eyes. The long lost apprentice had returned, and just in time too. Thorngaze looked battered but nothing a little rest could cure. Now maybe Dawnlight will be less grumpy now. she thought.

Smilepaw crept up to the new cat. He had never seen him before, but he had the faint scent of FireClan on him. Smilepaw crouched low to the ground, to avoid detection while he tried to eavesdrop to learn more about...anything actually. He didn't know about either this new cat or the plans on what Kindlestar intended to do about PebbleClan.

Dawnlight purred back at his littermate, then noticed he had interrupted the discussion they had been having over PebbleClan. "Is everything set?" he growled, curious about whether he would have his revenge or not.

Kindlestar nodded at Thorngaze, then looked at Firesong, her yellow eyes filled with more fight than they had a moment ago. "Take Thorngaze with you, I don't want to leave tomorrow with my mind set on an injured cat in camp," she told in a somewhat joking tone.

As Dawnlight spoke, her ears swiveled towards him and she flickered her gaze at him. "Yes. You will be in charge of the second wave of attack. You will be taking Warstorm and Sleetfur," she updated him, her tail curling around her white paws.

The tabby tom dipped his head but could say nothing more.
Something was far worse than his loss of words.
Thorngaze padded awkwardly towards the den where he first started his training,
a choice that he has never regretted.
The smell of herbs welcomed him, along with the familiar scent of his home.
What are they planning? he thought, looking back at the cats gathered in the clearing.
Suddenly, he felt afraid of them.
Only one word whispered to him.
War...
From the way they were talking, it sounded like they were going start the first attack.
Death...
Thorngaze's eyes widen at the thought of this. Then narrowed with sadness.
He wished that if only that he knew this was a path that his clan wasn't going to regret.

Firesong turned back to her den to treat Thorngaze. As she approached, she saw emotion in his eyes. "Thorngaze...are you alright?" She glanced over his injuries and began to pull out the necessary herbs.

Kindlestar nodded and watched the two medicine cats go, then turned her gaze back to the dead apprentice on the center of the clearing. "Get some rest. He will be buried in the morning, so if you wish to remain under the stars with him for one last time, you may do so. Just make sure you are sharp tomorrow," she ordered, then headed to her den, her face set as she knew she would make PebbleClan pay.

Dawnlight watched as Kindlestar padded off and he got up, then noticed a certain black and white apprentice close by, and he had a flashback of his younger days trying to hear what Kindlestar and Cursedstar were speaking of. His whiskers twitched and he padded towards the apprentice, recognizing the curiosity in his eyes.

"Anything interesting?" he growled, his blue eyes piercing Smilepaw's.

"Yes, I'm fine." Thorngaze replied, his eyes dark with worry.
"May I go collect herbs for... tomorrow?" he asked, chewing the comfrey into a plup.
It was good to have extra stock of marigold and cobwebs by his side.
"Can I?" he asked again, spreading the pulp on his claw.

Firesong nodded, still worried about Thorngaze. "Yes, of course you can...We'll need all the help we can get." She looked at him. The thought of the fighting unsettled him more that she would have thought. He'd never liked fighting, but this seemed stronger than it used to be. She wondered what had happened to him. "I'll go too," she decided. "There's no telling just what we'll need, and I haven't had a chance to stock up on everything yet..."

Thorngaze blinked, realizing that he was at a loss of words.
The fight troubled him to the point that he was so paranoid about everything.
The tabby trembled as he released a sigh, his eyes now bright.
If only if he could do something more than heal...
"... No telling just what we'll need." he muttered silently, repeating his mentor's words.

Thorngaze sniffed the air, the scent of death flooding his nose.
It smelled as if there was a body in the clearing. Just waiting to be taken away by the elders.
Sparrowpaw! he thought, recognizing the familiar scent.

"Firesong," the tom meowed, his gaze fixed on the clearing.
"What has happened to the clan since I left?"
