Firesong mixed a medicine and handed out doses to the sick cats, barely having enough for everyone. She turned and scowled at Emptykit. "Well, if someone had taken medicine gathering seriously, I'd be able to do more. As it is, I need to go back out. Spending all day chasing after you kits left me little time to gather catmint, or any other herb for that matter." She walked out of the medicine cat den, heading for he camp entrance.

Midnight fell asleep in the nursery

Dawnlight looked at Creamtail and shook his head. "Look at it this way. If it was them wanting the food, they wouldn't think twice before hunting us," he growled, his tail lashing at the thought of mice hunting them and a glimmer of amusement in his eyes.

Creamtail smiled. "Okay, I get your point. I guess I can kill for the sake of the Clan."

Dawnlight purred. "Good. Well, you saw how Thrushpaw caught that vole right?" he asked her, his whiskers twitching with anticipation as they always did before hunting.

Warpaw walked into camp with two mice that he placed in the fresh-kill pile.

Sharpclaw thanked LeRoy then lept over the fence and continued going farth from the clans

Emptykit felt hollow. she's right . . this . . this is all my fault! (first conclusion any small child would make) "I-i'm sorry mother, i-i did this to you." Emptykit hiccuped.
Badgerkit turn his head and looked worriedly at Emptykit. "It's not your fault, you can't stop sickness." Emptykit just keep on crying. "Emptykit" Badgerkit sighed and leaned into her, placing his tail around her. "It's ok, Firesong will make her better."

Kindlestar raised her head and saw Emptykit and Badgerkit looking down over their mother. She flattened her ears as she saw the small white kit blaming herself for her mother's illness.

"This isn't your fault... Greencough is something that happens in leaf bare, as we are more vulnerable, hungrier, and weaker..." she muttered weakly, trying to get up. "However, it seems you couldn't carry out your assignment either... I sent you out to help the Clan, not to have fun at the expense of failing Firesong. You are the oldest kits in the nursery, you should know better by now," she finished, dizziness making her words not make much sense.

Creamtail nodded. "Yeah, I saw that." She blinked, adding, "You expect me to be that good and proud of it, right?"

Dawnlight nodded. "That's right," he growled. "Or at least half as good," he joked, his whiskers twitching.

Firesong ran past the Fire Pond, catching a whiff of Dawnlight & co. She headed towards twolegplace, knowing that she'd probably have to go further into twolegplace to find more catmint. She should never have agreed to let a couple of kits come along during an epidemic. There was no room for wasted time when things were like this. I should have put my foot down. Now tigerkit's injured, Emptykit's freaked out, and we still have no catmint. She reached the border more quickly than she thought.


Thrushpaw smiled encouragingly at Creamtail. "Try not to think about it as killing. Think of it as gathering." He did feel kind of bad sometimes, but he realized that they couldn't live on plants. They weren't made that way.

Dawnlight nodded at Thrushpaw. "If that helps, then yes. Personally, I don't mind to think of it as killing," he sneered.

Creamtail smiled at Thrushpaw. "That's a good way for me to think of it," she said, before growling at Dawnlight. "As for you, why do you like killing so much? It's gross and mean."
