I didn't know we had to congregate on certain mailing lists to be considered a community. I see plenty of us around.
Check your spam filter. I haven't been getting a bunch of these important memos either.

I keep crossing paths with this whiny guy who thinks that just because there is low activity on yahoo mailing lists, the hellenic polytheist community is dead. rolleyes

He is plenty annoying. He's like "I run this awesome website, and its the ONLY active hellenic community around."

Sure, maybe, but they no one ever disagrees with him, either, from what I've seen. Man is a jerk. And seems to have a personal vendetta against other significant people in the community.

I've had Blue Oyster Cult's "Don't Fear the Reaper" in my head for two days now...

Which seems funny, given that earlier this week I was pondering Hades. ^^;

Ah, if only it didn't start when I watched Cowbell Hero again, I'd say it was interesting. wink

I'm currently reading through Roger Walsh's book on Shamanism. So far- I'm actually a bit impressed.

I have decided Mercury is no longer allowed to go retrograde. Now I just need to convince the heavens to help me ensure such.

Yeah, I noticed.
He's like 'okay, well maybe the community isn't dead, but on the mailing lists ad organisations you still only get those pompous regulars who think they are the be all and end all of hellenism.'
He's also convinced every newbie gets ripped apart.

Which totally isn't true -- and wasn't true in the time period he's thinking of. The people that got ripped apart then, were trying to present their opinion as fact and fact that every Hellenic Pagan had to follow.

This man want to unify the Hellenic community, but he'll end up tearing it apart.

^ Agreed.

Any controversy within the community I've seen has been caused by him essentially.
I'm a newbie, and I'm still intact too. wink

Spent all day in bookshops and their cafes.
Walked home in the rain and the dark and loved every-single-second of it.

*edit*
Now he's telling me what is and isn't hellenismos.
According to him it's orthopraxic?

Warm rain I can understand. But what I don't understand is what people love about damp hair and clothing. The former, ********, the latter, irritating to the skin and kinda dank. I mean really. I hate the rain. *grump*

Now the sun, however... mrgreen Ain't nothin' better than sunbathing. On a good day it's like cuddling up with a fresh towel, except the sun is big enough to make you feel warm all over. heart

I was thinking about Wicca, partially from the stuff on M&R, partially from other things...

So! In the 1950, Gerald Gardner begins sharing Wicca with others. Years go by, and others start writing books talking about "it", but not really the way he created it. And, today, there's all the sources out there that say Wicca is an eclectic religion.

Now, clearly one who wants to explain that Yeshua is actually, somehow, both the Lord and Lady of Wicca has broken into the good stuff. But...

Okay, so, intellectually I know that they're not Wiccans. I know that you can't be Wiccan without being initiated. I understand this.

The thing is, there are just -so- many people, it seems, at least, that truly believe they are following Wicca because of the wide array of books on the subject, that I feel... confused?

Obviously many of them don't know better. I doubt many people truly wish to pervert another individual's religion. But, because they don't know, they read, they "learn" and they call themselves "Wiccans".

The thing is, even though it's wrong, and even though I have, on Gaia, pointed individuals to the Wiccan FAQ, it's not a Gaian issue, and I feel -evil- telling people that they are not what they think they are.

And by people, I mean, I have more than one good friend like this...

And so, I feel sad...

^ I always feel helpless because for every one person that has learned it's a mystery fertility cult, 30 others have just picked up a SRW book.
I know even though I am right, if I go to certain places i'll be shouted down by these people.

So, I adopt the rather pompous stance of knowing I'm right and they are wrong. wink

To an extent, yeah it is -- it is defined more by what you do than what you believe. It's about action and sacrifice.

However, his list, if you notice, is more about beliefs.

I see what he was getting at now. I thought he was implying that everything is done in the same way for everyone.

He appears to be the only person thats seeing a big problem. Delusional perhaps?

I will admit that the community is small and fractional, and that there has been strains of elitism and over-academicism. But I don't see them as much now -- everyone seems to be focusing on what they are doing, and moreover -- creating!

How lovely is that!

I'm starting my three day Lenia celebration, and it is cold and sunny. I hope my hips loosen enough up to dance tonight. I will, at least, buy flowers.
