Good evening, guildies! blaugh sorry couldn't help myself there. redface

So how's everyone doing? I am very sleepy and feel mildly strung out today (hopefully everyone knows what I mean by that sweatdrop ). I had to make so many twists and turns (literally) in order to make it to and from the career fair downtown today. confused One way streets, no parking, missed intersections, etc. xd Oh the fun of it all! whee

Soo, I made it home and then got a mild headache (probably due to all the stress). xp Rested on my bed (it's a little more cleared off now), and then had dinner (which consisted of Stoffers' Lasagna and texas toast...I don't think I spelt lasagna right, but I hope it's close enough for you to figure out). Then about 7:30 pm (central time) Mom and I went to Wal-Mart to pick up my $15 prescription and some laundry stuff. 3nodding

At any rate, I'm finally home and able to relax. I don't have to give my powerpoint presentation until Monday or next Wednesday at the absolute latest. And my last presentation this week is tomorrow night (which is very informal and thus my more casual avatar now), but that was is a piece of cake. Mmmm cake! biggrin I reeeeeally shouldn't be craving cake (not with how high my blood sugar was earlier today, but I can't help it). rolleyes

Sorry about the rambling post; seems I got a lil' carried away again. lol Well, thanks for listening/reading and I'll fill you all in tomorrow or later tonight. heart

I had to use a Mac in one of my classes today and I feel so very wrong.

This must be what it feels like to cheat on a lover.

So, Champions Online.

Awesome casual fun.

Well, I decided not to attend my all years' alumni reunion tonight for high school. Too much homework and too little money add up to not enough time/money (US $5 per person at the door) and not enough incentive for me to go.

Perhaps next year I'll have a lil' more disposable income after I pull off my biggest (and hopefully most profitable) feat ever! 3nodding Dun-dun-dunnn! I plan to start my own business after I graduate this December. mrgreen

I don't really know if any one else here is my kind of geek, but the big event of the last week for me was the beginning of the show "Stargate: Universe." This is my review.

I am cautiously pessimistic at the moment. First episodes are hard. The actors and writers don't really know the characters, they have yet to establish a rhythm, they are still finding their legs. I know this. While I know that we have only seen two hours of a three-hour pilot so far, I have several concerns that go beyond this knowledge.

I have been an avid fan of the Stargate franchise through fifteen seasons of two shows and two movies. (The original movie kinda sucked, but it was made by totally different people.) I think the characterization and character interaction makes these shows. The interesting, unified and humor also keep me watching and I love the fact that no one involved take themselves too seriously. They also have the wonderful explanation technobabble, and they remain consistent to established canon for the most part. (The eye candy certainly doesn't hurt anything.)

I know and can understand that SG:U is going for a darker tone than what SG-1 or SGA had. They want the show to be different, I get that. However, I think it can and should be done in a way that does not sacrifice what the long-time fans would expect from the franchise.

By the end of a two-hour viewing, I still don't know most of the characters' names. There were no good laughs at all. There was a definate sense that everyone was taking this very seriously and it felt like they were trying to have the sort of political weight that BSG had. Not only that, but the camera work added to the "we're trying to be BSG" tone, at least for the first hour.

Worst of all was the terribly tasteless and unnecessary sex scene right at the beginning of the episode. The action-packed opening scene had me. I was into the show and curious. That scene was so totally unexpected in a Stargate show, so tasteless and poorly done, so unnecessary, and so far away from the flow of the rest of the episode that it knocked me right out of it.

Problem.

However, at the one-hour mark the camera work and tone switched to something much closer to what I have come to expect from a Stargate episode. They began, slowly, to introduce characters and bring me back in. I am hoping that the first hour was a test, and that if we made it through that things will get better.

I have high hopes for the characters of Eli and Chloe. They should be good, and Dr Rush may prove interesting at least. They have set up some good tensions between characters, and if they can keep it up there may be a way to redeem the show. Although they will lose me for good if they can't bring some humor to the situation.

(I'm also hoping they run into some sexy male aliens, cause there's really nothing for eye candy at the moment.)

I reserve judgement for several more episodes, but it has me somewhat disappointed at the moment.

So, indulged in my CHampions ONline addiction last night. Teamed up with another player and busted out a dozen missions, gained a level or two, and then, just before we logged, he challenged me to a duel.

So we're on the same page, duels are no danger PVP events that happen in the open world. You can only do it by both parties agreeing, and it's one on one.

Now, the player I had teamed with all night was a level higher than me, and had been our major damage output during our team up. So I expected to get toasted in this match.

The match began and I went right into using my energy builder and tossing out my damage over time attack. I kept circling him and then, when my energy was high enough, started using my point blank area of effect attack and tossing out every single one of my other powers.

I continued with that pattern, dropping him about a quarter of his health ((After his healing.)) each time. Four times later, and he dropped.

It was an intense fight, and totally awesome.

Emilie Autumn came to town last night and the show RAWKED. Hard.

I really needed the pick-me-up after an especially crappy week so far. I took a bunch of pictures with my cell phone's camera before the battery died but a lot of them aren't as good as they could be because some guy who was like 6'5'' finds it okay to stand near the front of the crowd in front of two people are 5'8'' (Headhunter) and about 5' even (random girl that Headhunter didn't know.)

Still, it was an awesome show. I, like many others, thought it was just gonna be a concert, but instead it was more or less a full on theatrical production with some music, fire eaters and other assorted circus-like stuff, some deliciously decadent black humor and the electric violin solo of a lifetime.

I'll post the pictures I took soon. They didn't turn out too bad, all things considered.

Well, I took my mid-term today in Interactive Media Concepts. Not sure how I did, but I know I missed at least 2 because I couldn't remember all the things a copyright owner/holder is able to do and what all the reasons are that one can use copyrighted material under fair use. xd I thought of them AFTER turning in the exam. emo

Then to make matters worse, I left and couldn't remember where I parked my car (I drove myself today). I had made a note on my cell phone to tell me that I parked in "East Library 1 Parking", but that didn't work too well as there seems to be TWO such parking lots or something that resembles two parking lots, so I spent a good 15 to 20 minutes looking for my car until at last I found it. rolleyes sweatdrop

After my "mishap" on Thursday of last week and today's short-comings, I hope tomorrow's better when I have to take Steven to Smithville, MO, for a job interview. neutral

Hate that.

My best (worst?) exam brain fart was probably in my German final. We were given answers and had to make the questions. (Easy, yes?) One question, however, defeated me and not because I just didn't know it. The problem was that I knew half of it in French and half of it in German and could not for the life of me remember the other halves of either language.

Until two minutes after I handed in the test.

Oookay! I'm not going to touch any of those replies with a 39 and a half foot pole! rolleyes

I got my exam back today and the professor said scores ranged between 40% and 93% with an average grade of 73-74% With that being said, I received an 88% mrgreen Not too bad if I do say so myself. I was disappointed that I didn't get the 93% but at any rate it was nice to see I passed (unlike the two nimrods sitting across from me and beside me...we sit around a rectangular table for class and use the computers on the perimeter of the room in my other class rolleyes Go figure!). 3nodding The student across from me got a 55% and the one next to me...well, I'm not sure, but I'm sure he didn't care as he took one look at it and folded it in half and then proceeded to doodle the rest of class (as always).

The trip to Smithville, MO, went well on my end. That is until I decided to go exploring and got myself lost at least 3 times while waiting for Steven to come out of his interview. At one point I ended up in the Missouri Department of Transportation or something like that. xd The other time I ended up at Smithville Lake. sweatdrop At any rate, we'll see what develops of this.

Awww...

Yes, yes they do. *sympathizes.*

Off on a totally different tangent: I declare today "Happy I'm Not Working Downtown Day." The Worker's Compensation Board in Edmonton had a hostage situation all day today. As far as I know, it's ongoing. Some guy with a rifle who was really pissed off at the WCB showed up at 8:30 this morning. Bunch of surrounding buildings were evacuated.

Which made me very confused when I got a call from someone from WCB at work this afternoon. Then I realized that she was calling from Calgary.

Those are one of the few situations that make me happy to live in unexciting Wyoming...No bodies's been hurt I'm hoping?
