I'm so sick today, that I ended up having to call off work. I can't remember the last time that I called out because I was sick. I usually end up working through it. I called off quite a bit when husband was dying though, and again when his mom died, but that's it. Oh well...

I hope you feel better soon. -Brews up some virtual tea in her e-kettle-

Just letting everyone know that the dentist visit went smoothly (no cavities or other problems) and the optomologist (eye doctor) visit is tonight at 7pm (central USA time). 3nodding I had thought about getting contacts, but have changed my mind again to revert back to glasses. I just don't think contacts are right for me. cool Too sexy for contacts! Too sexy for contacts! cool

Sorry about that couldn't resist. redface

Yeah, I don't really like contacts myself, but everyone keeps telling me that's only because I don't need to wear glasses all of the time. I'm lazy too, so it'd be much easier for me to put on glasses then to pop in contacts.

Sort of spring-boarding off of what both you and Amane have said I have an idea for a company that would require very very little start up costs- and I want to do so so I can finally get my feet wet in the industry I'm trying to enter. So I'm really tempted to quit my current job to start my own company. Ideally I'd like a workable part time job to pay for my car and such-- but to be able to plan around hours to operate a business on top of school.

This sounds interesting.

I really want to get into Marketing and Advertising post grad- but I cannot seem to land a job to help get me the experience I need. I'm thinking about starting a Guerrilla Marketing Company. Guerrilla marketing deals with more alternative advertising. While I do not have much knowledge of standard marketing- I have the weird brain and the ability to pull different people together that is required of successful Guerrilla Marketing campaigns.

Currently there appears to be no company in town that does it- only scams advertising to get a job in it. Myself I want to start my own company. Guerrilla Marketing would require little start up costs (little production, no inventory, etc).

The reason I thought it would work is because when I really sit down and assess my skills my skills are the ability to meet talented people and see their potential (several of my friends are amazing artists, designers, etc), I have the ability to think outside of the box, I have a degree in psychology and can analyze how people might interpret an ad or event, I did theater in high school so I have familiarity with performances, etc.

I don't think I'd make much money off of this idea- as the demand for it is probably very low in this market. But, a part of me wonders if I was to start my own company if that would help me show my capabilities in a business setting.

That sounds very cool. Good plan! And remember that this market will not be around forever. Eventually another boom cycle will hit. Then, with luck, by the next recession, you will have established yourself. As their business slows down, even more companies will seek out advertising to help them out, and therefore will find you.

Well, going along with Amanda/Antonia, I too have been thinking of trying to start my own business. 3nodding My biggest concern is people won't take me seriously as I'd probably have to work out of my house until I could afford to buy/rent an actual store front.

My idea seems simple enough in theory, but I wonder if in practicality it would fizzle out. I would like to make wedding invitiations by using simple yet elegant paper and caligraphy. I can also arrange flowers in vases or on wreaths for the weddings as well. I'd like to say I'd be a wedding planner, but I cannot do catering or rent halls, etc. Things like that I'm no good at, but I can make arrangements and invitations. blaugh While I'd still like to make my full, feature length animated film some day this gives me at least a starting point. 3nodding

Don't let the lack of a storefront deter you! Several powerful entrepreneurs began in their basements. The best way to defeat the concern of "unprofessional" is to make sure the rest of the operation is tip-top. If you meet clients in person, just dress sharp, have an organized but appealing website if you have one for your businesses, and make your work space a legitimate work space (I.E. have your tools ready and try to keep home distractions to a minimum).

I had a great day at work! How often do you get to say that, really? But there are good reasons for it. The manager who has been giving me a hard time is no longer working for the company, the rest of us ran the store like clockwork while the big head honcho dude was inspecting it, it was pay day, I put in my two weeks notice, and the coworker I don't like called in sick. Everything worked out well.

On top of that, I have an interview for a better job in the city, my current apartment has been rented out starting in September, and there is still hope that the place in the city that I want will accept my application. If not, I at least know that I can couch surf a few places until I find something else.

Things are still stressful as all hell, but I'm starting to think that maybe it will be ok.

That is level 10 fantastic. I hope you rock the interview so you can get everything in order for the move. What city are you moving to?

I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason and sometimes after a hard spell things will just start fitting into place. I'm relieved to hear you've leaving the pizza businesses though- with your allergy it sounds more than a little hazardous to your health.

I'm moving to Edmonton. So I will actually be in the same city as Harmony. I'm looking forward to it.

-A commercial for the Jack in the Box fast food chain came on earlier. The nearest restaurant is two states south of me. Sonic does the same damn thing. Why do they mock me?!

-I've spent a good part of the day trying to brainstorm for some writing, but I'm hitting intellectual dead ends here. So I got out of the house and just drove around town for a while, listening to Dozer and enjoying the hot weather. I love summer and don't want it to leave me sad .

-I watched Seth Rogen's "Observe and Report" last night and it was fun-ny. It was very crude, but if that's your thing then check it out.

-My school's book store can kiss my a** with wanting 400 dollars for the textbooks I need this semester. I hit a few sites online and spent just a hair over 200. Jerks.

For the same reason at&t U-verse mocks me (and my family!)!! We can't get it at our house because we're too dang far away from the nearest junction box, which is about 3-6 blocks south of our house! sweatdrop

On a happier note, I just wanted to say that today's been an amazing 28th birthday and I could only be happier if Daddy was here. blaugh
