Nicolae was about to respond but instead he was suddenly on his feet. "One moment," he said as he vanished into Antha's room. "Come with me," he told Kain as he took him by the arm and dragged him back to the library. He locked the doors behind him and returned to his chair.
"Generations clash in our family," he explained, "Sometimes only a little and sometimes enough that people start going missing and never show up again. Your mother is one of those people. Aunt Mary Jane believes only in the power of God and claims that our abilities make us demons bound for Hell. She calls us abominations. If she could she would burn every last one of us at the stake."
He sighed and looked at the window. The snow was building up again. "But cousins usually get along. We ourselves had a little......problem along the way but we've all calmed down again. Calmed down as much as psychopaths can that is."

"She a strong believer in religion yet she gave birth to me whose father is related to her? I don't know what religion she believes, but if it's the one I think, I thought that they don't allow incest. They go to hell if they do." Felix himself didn't believe in god or any religion. There was no such thing as a god. No higher being. What you see, is what there is. Nothing more.

Glancing over at Kain, Felix studied the man. From first glance, he knew how to carry himself. And when Sleet attacked, he seemed how to use a gun. He hesitated greatly, but that was caused letting Sleet intimadating him. However, even with that, he still stood his ground. With training he could be even better. The guild would love to have him on thier side.

Vikteren waited until the mortal--Kain--was gone from the room before he answered her. "I do not require an apology from you," he said, slowly, choosing his words with care. "You have done nothing to warrant regret. I am--glad--very much so--that you ran. That you struggled." His palms were very nearly healed, and he reached out, with the very tips of his fingers, the parts that remained clean of blood, and touched her hand. "I wish that you had not been hurt," the vampire said, softly. "But I am glad that you are still with us. Antha, why have you never fought him, before tonight, when he came to claim you?"

Kain was pulled into the library without a struggle. He had no mind set to attack someone as strong as these seemed to be. Kain instead turned and walked to the long shelfs of books and began pulling a few down. He said and started to read. He didn't understand some of it because of the ink spills or other languages being used but he got the jist of most of it. He read of the city and few other things chosing to stay with the fantasy ones. *Mabey not as Fantasy as it used to be though.* he thought to himself without even a smile. He decided to lose himself in the books until someone came for him. However he did his best to ignore the books on magic for now. He didn't what to tread that deep into this new world that he found just yet.

Antha gave one soft sigh, diverting her eyes to watch the floor. "There is nothing I can do to protect myself from Sleet. I cannot compete with him physically and the umbra are useless for anything short of killing him. Running only makes things worse, because I cannot elude him for long." Generally, when people got in his way, Sleet killed them. So Antha had decided to merely stand still and accept her punishment until Khayman, Zero, Singe, Nicholas, and whoever else wished to help could drag him back to her basement and he could pay for her suffering. It was the only way they knew how to do things. "One day, my family will cease to exist. When that happens, Sleet will be dead before he can blink. But for now, I can do nothing but take his abuse, and you would be wise not to stand in his way. Every time he is thwarted, he gets angrier. The angrier he becomes, the more people die and the more I bleed."

"We're a catholic family," Nicolae said with a shrug of his shoulders. "We're all catholic by association. But somewhere along the lines when our parents were teaching us how the world works they wormed in the fact that it's ok for us to interbreed. For some reason everyone seems to think we're an exception to the whole incest thing. Besides Julien's probably legally way away from her on the family tree."
He gave another shrug of his shoulders and took a long drag of his cigarette. "Aunt Mary Jane still tells us it's wrong and we're all going to hell if we don't repent but she knows we're nothing without interbreeding. Besides she always wanted kids and it's not like she could just bring in some non-Mayfair guy. She's still against murder I guess and you couldn't call marrying a man into this family anything else."

"So giving birth to me was the lesser of two evils for her. Not wanting some guy murdered lead her to lay with a relitive." Felix couldn't really care less how he came to be. Life begins at random, and is ended with out warning. That's just how it went. He would know how quickly and stealthly life ended. Probably better than most here. Accept for maybe his brother here. But that depended on him, whether he allowed his feedee to live or die. And also if he fed from humans. To Felix's knowledge, which might be wrong, seeing as how it was wrong earlier, vampire can only drink blood. Their system would reject anything else.

"I don't know if you guys remember me from childhood, I know Antha doesn't. But has my mother or father even acklowledged me since my disappearance?"

Nicolae gave another shrug of his shoulders. "We didn't even know you existed. Antha would've found and and tracked you down if any of us had. Mary Jane might have been the only one who knew and she's never told us a damn thing."
That made him stop. He knew it was wrong while he was saying it. "My mother would have known. She was Designee of the Legacy to your mother so she would have known somehow. But she went psycho when I was little so we never heard much from her. She died giving birth to Antha."
He glanced once out the window. "Antha should take you to Mayfair Manor soon. Do me a favor Felix, remember the look on Julien's face when he finds out you're his son really well. I want to see it." He grinned wide flashing his fangs. "We don't get to see shock on Julien's face much. Antha can give him a look of absolute horror but it's not the same."

"If what you said was true about my mother, it would be no surprise that I was born and raised in secrecy." Aparently, even his father didn't know about his existence. No one besides the woman that birthed him. Was he really that bad of a object ot hide? Felix didn't care. It happen years ago, and he had a vauge to no memories of it. But he would soon met them. Or he thought soon. He didn't know how bad Antha was or how she was recovering. Regarding Nicolae again, Felix nodded in his responce to seeing Julien's face once he heard the news.

He looked out the window for a few minutes watching the snow build up. "It's sad," he said softly as he looked out at the trees. "You never got to be one of the little Mayfair kids playing in the garden of Mayfair Manor. You never got to sneak around the attic with us and listen to Uncle Louis' stories about the old days."
His eyes turned lazily to the corner towards the stairs. He doubted anyone knew that he was looking towards the attic and the writings on the floor in there. Their sanctuary. "But then you never had to bear our burden. The spirits haunting the family didn't touch you. You didn't have to try to cope with the weight of the family and fail like we did. I don't know if I want to pity you or envy you."
Felix had never belonged to the Red Crayon Aristocrats and probably never would. Nicolae wasn't one anymore because he ran away. But the memory of it would still haunt him for the rest of his immortal life.

Antha gave one soft sigh, diverting her eyes to watch the floor. "There is nothing I can do to protect myself from Sleet. The angrier he becomes, the more people die and the more I bleed."

The vampire laughed--a short, humorless bark, with not a trace of amusement in it. "What are you trying to tell me, Antha? That I should not even try to protect you? I cannot--no more than the tides can keep themselves from rising, or--or the dawn can keep itself from coming. If it means Sleet's wrath falls upon my head, I would risk it--if it meant you could walk free and unhurt for one more day, I would lay down my life--or what passes for it--for you." Vikteren shook his head, impatient with himself. "Do not ask me to turn a blind eye to Sleet's actions."

Kain read on. He opened books on many different fighting styles and began to read on them. He didn't know how but he began to learn them quickly. He added them to his skills improving them and improving his old ones. He read quickly through many books learning new skills and even found a few books that he had surched many years for.

"Don't do either. As far as I'm concerned, my life as a Mayfair started now. Even if my life started differently from yours." Completely different. They weren't seperated from their parents. Which Felix was now thinking that he was abandoned. After hearing the descripting of his mother. But that didn't matter. It was over with.

But they didn't have to make the choise between ending your life or ending others lives to save your own. Having other die by you hand without you knowing the reason for why they need to die. Thievery, murder. It didn't matter. But also as Nicolae said, he didn't bear any burdens, or deal with curse, Felix guessed. He was guessing that's what Antha was meaning by the curse. Felix would find out soon enough.

For a moment, Antha just stared at him. There were others who protested Sleet's actions, who tried to make him stop. They reasoned that his treatment of Antha was irrational. Khayman threatened him with war between their covens. But none, not even Nicolae, were willing to fight him to keep her unharmed. They passed it off as she did, reminded themselves that he would not kill her and they would exact revenge anyways.
Before she even thought about it, Antha kissed him. It was brief, for she withdrew when she returned to her senses, but it was not guarded or reserved like others she had given. A kiss of scalding passion. "You would kill me," she said very simply, her pale cheeks blushing nearly crimson for a few moments as she became aware of her own actions, "If you were to lay down your life merely to spare me a day of Sleet's torture, only two things could come of it. Either I would kill Sleet, effectively killing myself and every poor soul that bears Mayfair blood, or I would go entirely mad and, in all likelihood, kill myself."
She touched his hand again very lightly, though this touch was not tentative. It matched the sudden and very uncommon seriousness in her eyes that for once made her look her age, older even, if not saner. "Promise me you would never do something so foolish. It would be the end of us both."

"I'll do both," he said. "Being a Mayfair kid means you rule the child world. It's wrong that you never got to experience that so I pity you."
A sudden bitter smile came to his pale lips. "Don't ever let that thought cross your mind again." His eyes watched Felix sharply with a very dark knowledge, ghosts of his past come to haunt him again. "We didn't live the same way you did. But you don't know what it's like being controlled by things that don't even have faces or voices. Things that only Antha has enough power to see. You don't know what it's like to be taken over by them and kill just for the sake of killing. You don't know what it's like to step through a door into a place that has never existed but you can touch and feel. You've never dragged someone through that door knowing that they've done nothing wrong and they'll still never come back out."
He stood abruptly and shivered as he walked to the window. "So I'll envy you as I damn well please." There was no anger in his voice. He was frightened not angry. Frightened at his memories. "Just as Antha envies me because I was able to run away from it I'll envy you because you never even glimpsed it."
Those last couple of words joined with his feelings of remorse were enough to send the images at Felix without meaning to. It was enough to show him children being dragged out of their peaceful beds and through that dark door. It was enough to show him bodies hanging from the ceiling and stuffed under beds and hanging from doors. It was enough to show him blood on the filthy floor and dead grayish flesh. It was even enough to show him his cousins with bloody brooms in the attic and Antha falling screaming to her knees clutching at another cousin and crying until he started bashing another cousin with a wooden beam. Even the memory came with it that he had been in charge and when he had left it had fallen on Antha and she had snapped under the pressure and everything had gone to hell.
It stopped quickly and his mental walls came up like metal to keep his thoughts inside. "We're not nice people." His voice was calm but grave. "We never have been and we never will be. We can't claim sanity or innocence. Mayfairs go mad with the weight of our burden and we kill to keep our secrets safe. Mark my words the innocent blood will be on your hands soon."
