I find some to be a little too stiff kinda serious. But I guess having them's a blessing too. I'm at awe at how good most of you guys are. eek I just have to let that out of my system, yes.

Mmm..I've just finished moving into my temporary home for the next few months...still dealing with the legal end of having sold our condo.. -_- Legal stuff gives me headaches. I'll be around more often now though, and it looks like I may *gasp* have time to actually do some art. *boogies*

"That's YuGiO?"

Me: Lord, please don't let me knock this b***h right in her mouth.

I put my last two drawing on the wall of my workspace at the office. I'm proud of them. I'm finally understanding some stuff about figure drawing. I want to have them up so when I doodle, I make sure I do better. Anyway, one of my coworkers comes over and points to it.

I was about to snatch her eyes out her face and pitch them across the room. gonk Instead I just said, "No, it's not."

Then she proceeds to argue with me. Because, I would need to be told that I accidentally drew a ******** up cartoon her son watches.

This happened before at my last job too. "That looks like Avatar".

Me: "Who?"

What is it with people who have kids equating everything to either Disney, Bugs Bunny, or whatever lame a** anime their kid makes them watch? I understand the guy who said the avatar thing. When I did look it up, i can see how the thought so. But the chic that called my drawings Yugio... mad

The drawings in question are the last two in my mentee thread.

Has anyone else gotten that from their peers? I realize that many of you don't have friends or coworkers with kids, but I mostly hear that from them. Others tend to say, "wtf? Well, I like it, but I don't know if I should."

Hmm o_o;; I rarely get that.. then again, I rarely ever put up my own art :'D so it's not much of an issue.

But I understand completely... the generalization and stereotyping around anything nonrealistic is very annoying :F... It's not even just that, a lot of times the way it's said is condescending and worded like a putdown.

People have a terrible tendency do generalize everything they don't know... It's freaky how they can see an entire style, with all it's variations, as a homogeneous mass just because they don't have interest in it. It's a kind of... mind block. confused
Sadly, that happens to everyone - in different areas. Of course most people won't argue about something they don't understand with a person who does understand it... but there are always the a**-holes xp

People have a terrible tendency do generalize everything they don't know... It's freaky how they can see all japanese-styled drawings the same way just because they don't have interest in them. It's a kind of... mind block. confused
The thing is, those drawings aren't even "japanese styled". They just happen to be cartoons that are more surreal than real or uber stylized and cartoony. It' almost like any cartoon that demonstrates some kind of inner structure that doesn't look like a Marvel/DC comic is automatically anime. -____-

Tirael: That's pretty much it. And I don't even mind the generalizing all that much. It's arguing with me and TELLING me what I drew.

lol yeah.

"Oh you draw that kind of art..." Like it's not -really- art... and someone please tell me what that kind of art is :'D.

Anyhow don't let it bother you too much :3 People are people and will try to bend things they're not familiar with to things they know. Even if the comparisons are extremely off.

I'm so darn confused! How does a woman argue that your drawing is of yugioh when it's obviously a greek mythological figure?! Is she blind?! Or just... ugh! Some people.

I know, since I was more into drawing environments before I started with anime, my parents and everyone else in my family that knows I draw are disappointed in that.
T^T;;

They think that it's useless, but they're just ignorant to how popular it actually is.

Oh man, my Spiderman action figure just came in the mail today! I'm not really a fan of Spidey, but I couldn't pass up something that would make such a great drawing mannequin. With a few exceptions, I can get him into almost any pose that I want because he's got such a ridiculous number of joints. mrgreen I'm sooo excited to try him out.

I really think my boyfriend (who's a big Spiderman fan and is actually attending art college, unlike me) is going to kill me when he finds out. mrgreen
