Osiris City Streets

[Average Doe]

Volusia sped through the city, wind pulling fiercly at her thick, curly hair. Legs pushing, pulling, fighting with oneanother, the girl realized it was true what they said about riding bikes; she never forgot. She smiled, racing into the parkinglot of the bank. She pulled her bike into the lobby and leaned it on the corner. Volusia nodded at a teller, signaling that she needed something. Producing a small key and a slip of paper, she was lead into a small room and shefound her box. Sliding it from it's little niche in the wall, the girl dismissed the tellerwith a vague wave of the hand. She opened the box and looked inside. A satisfied smirk settled on her curved lips.

Gabriel could feel himself growing bored as he wandered Osiris City, allowing his feet to carry him as they pleased, entirely heedless of where he might end up. The boredom was like a blanket, all-consuming and smothering his mind, pushing him to do something, anything, so long as it relieved his apathy. A sigh escaped his lips. Feeding again was out of the question. He'd already had his fill, after all, and wouldn't need to find more prey for a good while now. So what could he do to rid himself of this godawful exhaustion?

He passed a girl with red hair, a vampire from the feel of her aura---latching onto his and tugging as though loathe to release the sustenance it had found---and he paused, turning to watch as she lurched after a man on his way to some bar. He pondered for a moment whether to follow her as she was stalking her prey, simply to see how others did it, then leapt lightly to the top of a roof and landed in the shadows, flitting across the rooftops beside her as he watched her follow her meal.

Antha Mayfair was dreadfully alone.
Her brother had been instructed to meet her by the docks two hours earlier, but he had never shown. So she walked aimlessly, steps slowly paced and fingers running boredly over the rough surfaces of any wall she passed. She hated the feeling of dejection and hated the way it made the world seem even more. The dark things seemed depthless and cold, the bright things were blinding and needed to be ignored, and the umbra smothered her as they hovered about, attempting to comfort her. All she wanted was something real---something of living cells---to be placed in her company.
"You're the devil, Nicolae!" she whispered irritably to the air as she seated herself hastily upon a park bench. "Oh, if I could only wring his neck now. Breaking a promise to me---that louse!" But complain as she might, she was still alone and it still drove her crazy. She couldn't take the company of spoiled witches a moment longer nor the solitude that accompanied every aspect of her life without them.
Either way, Antha was left kicking at the dirt beneath her feet and willing the umbra away from her while she sat sighing and realizing frustration would do her no good whatsoever.

Sabata left the bar and began walking arounf the city. He hadn't gotten a very good look at it earlier, but now he realized what a beutiful, if slightly creepy, place it was. After a while, he decided to look around the park. As he was walking around, he saw someone sitting on a bench on one side, his vampiric eyes could easily distinguish the figure as Antha Mayfair, but something was wrong. She seemed upset about something. He considered asking her what the matter was, but wasn't sure if he should get involved in the affairs of the Mayfair family.

Had she been paying any attention, Antha might have noticed the vaguely familiar vampire quite nearby. But she wasn't and she didn't. She simply gave another hard little kick at the ground and fell over onto her back with one leg hanging carelessly off of the side of the bench and the other folded beneath her. For any other girl---any normal girl---taking such a position would be horribly dangerous while alone in the park at night. With Antha, however, there were few who would dare.
"Nicolae, you rotten devil!" she muttered heatedly as her eyes fluttered momentarily open to stare at the flipped vision of the park around her and the thick waves of red hair swaying gently as it hung from her head. She found her hair annoying though as it glistened with water droplets from the mist that had recently formed in place of what had hours before been a heavy rain, so quickly she shut her eyes again to cut off the image. "Frustrating brother---maddening brats---damn all the family!" With anyone else around, Antha wouldn't have dared utter such things. But this was safe, the quiet night where Mayfairs and most others were generally afraid to wander.

Sabata found himself smiling slightly at Antha's comments. He knew a thing ot two about family trouble. He sat down a few feet from the bench to watch her. He had no plans for trying anything with her, even if she was in the park, alone, at night. He closed his eyes for a moment, and concentrated, his open palm began to glow. When he opened his eyes, there was a ball of blue light floating just above his palm.

Even through her closed eyes Antha saw the blue illumination nearby, though still she didn't care to open her eyes. She had everything she needed just by the image the umbra supplied her with, though it took her a moment to recognize his face. "What are you doing out here?" she asked him softly, letting her hand fall down to shield her closed eyes, "Shouldn't you be out hunting right about now? It's only just become dark."

Sabata looked up at Antha's voice. "The night is long, I've got time. Besides," he flicked his wrist and the orb floated over to Antha, "shouldn't you be at your family's manor?" Sabata had seen the manor as he'd walked around the city, he thought it looked nice.

She gave one highly sarcastic laugh and made a small motion to push her hair back from her face. "Mayfair Manor? Not at all. There's a reason I refused to live in it, despite the fact that I own it." A quick smile touched her lips as she shifted and sat straight on the bench, smoothing out the wrinkles in her dress in a most paranoid fashion. "And you never know how long the night will last for you in this city, ducky. For all you know Sleet or Persephone's crones could be lurking behind the trees and plotting to steal you away to their crypt palaces of dirt and stone." There was one more laugh that emitted from her, merely amused rather than sarcastic, before she was silent again. "Ah...well....that just won't do. I can't seem to recall your name."

Sabata laughed at her comments about Sleet and Persephone. "It'd take more than two crones to bring me down." He looked over at her. The orb floated down, illuminating her face. "I'm Sabata." he said.

A small smile crept upon her face as she watched the orb with careful eyes. "Sabata...got it. Alright, well my name is Antha Evelyn---Antha for short." She gave a small laugh and turned her head to him, "If somehow you didn't already know, that is." It would be hard not to know her considering her reputation, if not simply by her family's reputation. This she knew all too well and honestly she relished the fact.

Sabata spoke her name slowly "Antha... Evelyn." He smiled again, "That's a nice name." He hadn't realized she had a middle name, or that it was Evelyn, it suits her he thought I like it. He rose, the ball of light flew back to his hand, "It was good meeting you Antha, I hope we meet again." With that he dissolved into mist and vanished.

For a moment Antha sat smiling cryptically to herself, her gaze lost. It was only when she heard the low hum of voices nearby that her expression took on a kinder and certainly more easy look. Quietly she stood, brushing off her skirt in a most paranoid fashion, and continued down the street. Left behind there was a single sheet of yellowed paper with red crayon drawings folded in half and wedged behind the metal frame of the bench. Should Nicolae come by, surely he would pick up her scent from it and go after it. If not, there was nothing on it that any random passerby could use to make a connection to her.
So, her task basically completed, Antha headed back into the mass of metal that was the city and took to her aimless wandering.
