So as not to clutter up the Greek thread...
Cuchullain Nuri ancient greek (usually attic) or modern greek? Also, usually, words depended on context. ...with the exception of a few phrases, I don't use any greek. I have enough issues with Latin. Dun buaigh, Gaeilge! Irish, for the win! And this gets me thinking about how interesting 4chan memes would be, translated into other languages. Probably not to the people who speak those languages, but, come on, "Gato largo es laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargo" is great enough, especially if the final "largo" is done in the "ES GOOOOOOOOOL!" voice.
Nuri - That's freaking win. I found Fali and Jakri in a song just last night, but nothing quite like what you described.

Fiddlers Green Deoridhe We're having a lunch for it on Friday. 3nodding Persian/Iranian food is SO GOOD!!! Indeed. Especially Cheelo Kabob and Kubidae. domokun
Darn you people with all your fancy restaurants that please the palet rather than make you sick.
Sure, there are some good restaraunts around here, but all the italian places drown the s**t out of the pasta, and all of chinese restaurants serve the same s**t
The "authentic" mexican restaurants stopped being authentic and now takes like Taco Bell. And the nearest Chipotle's is an hour away. Arghhhh.

Fiddlers Green jaden kendam Darn you people with all your fancy restaurants that please the palet rather than make you sick. And the nearest Chipotle's is an hour away. Arghhhh. If it is any consolation... They famish the wallet while nourishing the body. domokun As far as authentic Mexican... eh... I like Tex-Mex better. domokun Now, Chipotle is about as far from Mexican as one can get in a tortilla, but starry heavens, that place is bliss... so much food, and so very good... Even after working at one for a year, and seeing the food being prepped, I love it. domokun
I have been going to Chipotle for a while, then a few years ago, I went to San Francisco and went to a taco place on Fisherman's Wharf, and I thought to myself, "This is so much like Chipotle's, only they had shrimp and whatnot." The like a year ago, I was watching a show that mentioned Chipotle's and the guy who made it up had went to that taco place at Fisherman's wharf and got the idea from that. I think they also said that the parent company is McDonald's of all places.

Fiddlers Green TatteredAngel Fie, New Mexican reigns supreme. wink I know it not, do enlighten me. domokun Mainly, the differences are little things like spices and such. I kid mostly because there tends to be New Mexico vs. Texas rivalry over Southwestern cuisine. I've been living in New Mexico for more than a decade now, so I'm personally biased, but I wouldn't actually argue. *lol*
One of the things that really characterizes the difference is the way New Mexico uses chile- nearly any dish you order will come with a choice of red or green chile on top (if you're in the know, you can order "christmas" for both red and green wink ). The chile is in the form of a sauce, usually, but I don't know anyone who calls it sauce.
More green chile, less use of jalapenos than Tex-Mex. Things that stand out for me are our chorizo, which is spiced differently than in other places, and dishes like huevos rancheros, which is very nearly one of the things I'd pick to have on the proverbial desert island. Potatoes also appear as a side instead of rice a fair bit. I highly recommend trying authentic New Mexican food sometime. domokun
...Now I'm hungry.
