ACHTUNG!

You are about to enter RANT country

I have a strong feeling that I'm preaching to the choir here, but hell, I'm going to do it anyway....

What the <********> has happened to television?!?!

I remember a time, not too long ago, when there was something entertaining on the idiot box pretty much every night of the week. Well scripted dramas, laugh-a-minute sitcoms, general, good ol' fashion escapism. These it seems like these days I can only ever find episodes of Who Wants to Marry America's top weight loss dance star for a chance to win 50,000 dollars! Are people really so hollow, so...unfulfilled...that TV shows with a bunch of vapid, fame-whoring nobodies who have about as much personality as a sample of berber carpeting passes for entertainment?!

I bring this up because I just happened to turn on the television yesterday and over a span of a few short hours I came across no less than ELEVEN different courtroom reality shows. I also see they gave a show to the big bald dude who used to do security for Jerry Springer (who is still on the air himself). Hopping over to cable proved no better, G4 TV, the supposed channel for geeks, was running the shows Cops and Cheaters, VH1 had Hulk Hogan's show, Hulk Hogan's daughter's show, a show with some loudmouth lady who used to be on Flava Flav's show, some new show with Ricki Lake and I see Irv Gotti (a guy who hasn't been relevant in the Hip-Hop industry since I was in High School) even has his own show. By god, someone's even brining MC Hammer back for his own show. Are these shows really that inexpensive to produce that these networks can pop them out like the Octomom (who, surprise, is apparently getting one of her own)?

We won't even get into the parody that MTV has become in recent years.

This post has no real point or direction, I just needed to get these thoughts down.

I do think, however, it'd be cool if we went to a network and pitched our own idea for a reality show. It'll go something like this:

1.) We approach the lobotomized monkeys that run a network
2.) The show gets pitched and sees us living in a lavish, fully furnished house somewhere in SoHo where we're free to create artistically to our hearts desire as the network provides us with money
3.) ???
4.) Profit!

Who's with me?

I'm with you! And I took public relations and marketing classes to boot! I could really help us make a case. 3nodding blaugh I completely agree with you, but I could never put it into words.

On a different note (yet still ranting)...

I'm roasting! It's too flippin' hot here! burning_eyes It's only 85 degrees Farenheit, but with the humidity factored in it feels like 90! eek sweatdrop I am roasting! Too hot and I have to go to school in about 1 hour and 14 minutes! sweatdrop

Yes! the plan is genius! We'd be able to do anything and get paid to do so! *gets all shifty eyed while rubbing hands together in evill villian like manner.*

But back to the rant. They'll put anything on the air nowadays...Jackass and its ilk for example. Kinda hard to believe people find moron's purposly getting themselves hurt entertaining.

Job! I finally got a job!

Granted, it is a job making pizza, but it is a full-time job none the less!

I am now working in a local family-run pizza place, and once I'm trained I will become the Monday and Tuesday closing supervisor.

Congrats!

@Headhunter:

How about this, we make it a reality show about planning and executing ANOTHER reality show. Of course, it'd have to be us, because we've got the cool ideas. >.> And getting paid to d**k around would be awesome.

Related and tangental: I actually watch very little TV anymore. Maybe an hour a week. If I do turn on the idiot box, I'm playing a videogame, or putting in a movie. I just don't like television anymore.

I'm more likely to dig up old cartoons ((Reboot, anyone?)) online before watching some of the stuff on air right now.

My mom watches those court shows. I hate them. I tend to love the cartoons. More content.

*curls up with airpopped popcorn and a Batman plushie to watch every single batman cartoon and movie I own....*

I like dvds best.

RIP Ryuk

I am sad to announce that my beta fish of over a year passed away last night.

He will be missed.

Random question! Which monster in the general fantasy world does everything think is the smartest? I vote for mimics!

What classifies as "monster," and how general a fantasy world?

Any magical or normal creature for probably any fantasy world.

I know it's way over played, but I believe that vampires are generally held to be the smartest due to centuries of not having much else to do...

Very good point. You tend to learn things the longer you live.

My money is on the Grue, just because they're always "in the dark" doesn't mean they're not smart!

@Headhunter-

Your proposal sadly sounds a lot like the "Real World".

Gaia's pitch for the Othersiders made me cry inside, apparently it's going on Cartoon Network if I understand right. sad Sorrow.

The funniest thing I've heard today. From the TV show Scrubs

Dr. Cox to other doctors: "You can't drink and then come to work. You're not airline pilots."
