• To Fly

Shouting is being heard as the camera focusses on a couple fighting.

Sean: Where the hell do you think you're going?

    Lani: Out

    Sean: Come back here

Lani grabs her phone, keys, headphones, cigarettes, and lighter. She exits the apartment as Sean yells at her.

    Sean: You better come back.

As she closes the door a beer bottle smashes against it.

Flashes to a bottle slammed onto the floor and a man and a woman arguing. A child sits on a couch covering her ears and crying. The woman takes the child's arm and leaves.

Lani quickly puts her headphones in and plays music as she walks. She walks through a crowd of people down a street.

    Flashback to the first fight.

Sean yells at her as he slaps her in the face. She falls and stays down.

Flashes back to her walking. She enters the parking garage. She takes off the hood and her hair blows in the wind. She takes out a cigarette and lights it. Then she makes it to a rail and looks down seeing the dead street under her. She takes a deep breath.

VO: Lani: I have always wanted to fly. I wanted to see what it would be like to soar through everything around me. Like a bird soft and angelic, but that was the last thing that has happened to me. Even as a child…

Flashes to the woman and child from earlier on a street and the woman wipes the child's tears as they walk.

    Flashes back to Lani smoking.

VO: Lani: Everyone around me told me I was beautiful. So, I made it my career…

Flashes to Lani at a photoshoot. She then is directed to take off her jacket and there is clearly nothing underneath. She starts to unzip the jacket…

Flashes back to Lani at the parking garage.

VO: Lani: Through my career, everything, I just wanted to fly…

She then sits on part of the railing dangling her feet off of it, and lights another cigarette.

VO: Lani: Even with Sean… I just want to soar beyond the clouds to a land far far away like I used to read about as a child.

She puts her head back looking strait up at the sky, as the music plays through silence. Birds are heard in the distance.

VO: Lani: I have always wanted to do this. Just never had the guts…

She exhales a cloud of smoke as she looks down once more. Pain clearly stricken on her face. She looks up once more and smiles, finishing her last cigarette.

Vo: Lani: I have never had peace in my life unless I am looking at the sky. That's how I want to go… through flying, or at least trying to.

As the song ends there is nothing but silence. She then stands up hearing the birds in the backgrounded the wind blowing, she stretches her arms out and smiles. She then steps off the railing with a smile on her face as she falls.

VO: of a girl around the same age just as beautiful: Lani!

Flashes to Lani sitting on the railing. Lani looks over her shoulder seeing a girl she clearly knows. She turns and smiles at her and walks toward her. The camera fades as she walkaway from the the ledge.

VO: Lani: To fly that's all I want, but not today.
