“Daniel, wake up and turn on the news, there is something you have to see!” Ayumi shouted as she burst into my room. “Alright, there’s no need to yell.” I said as I sat up and put my glasses on. I turned on the news. “This is it.” She said as she jittered. “All right, be quiet so I can hear it.” I said. “According to our sources, it seems that there is a drastic increase in mafia related activity. It seems that it is about a 97% increase from last year. About one in ten crimes seem to somehow be related to the mafia or some other organized crime group. People are being advised to keep an eye out for anything that may seem suspicious, and to report it to their local authorities.” The reporter said. I turned off the TV and laid back down.

“Well, what should we do?” Ayumi asked me with a bit of concern in her voice. “What do you mean? Do you honestly think we can accomplish anything on our own? Stop for a second and think about what we are dealing with here. We aren’t just dealing with the mafia. We are dealing with almost every mafia family and organized crime ring in existence. We don’t stand a friggin’ chance.” I said as I took of my glasses and ducked back under my covers. She looked at me with a hint of disappointment on her face, and left.

I was lying in my bed that night when I heard a loud bang, followed by the sound of people screaming. I just ignored it, but then came a knock on my front door. I got up and answered it. “What’s going on?” I asked. “It’s Ayumi, she’s been shot!” The woman yelled. “WHAT!” I yelled as I threw on my shoes and ran out the door. I arrived in front of Ayumi’s house and was greeted with a horrible sight. “AYUMI!” I yelled as I ran to her. “Daniel, is that you?” she said slowly. “Yes, don’t worry, everything will be fine.” I said as I tried to hold back my tears. “Daniel, it’s over for me. I’ve been shot in the heart, it’s a miracle I’ve been able to hang on this long. Daniel, you are strong, you can do anything if you put your mind to it.” She whispered slowly. “Dammit, don’t talk like you’re gonna die! You’re gonna be okay!” I shouted as the tears came pouring out. She looked at me for a moment, and smiled. “Daniel, listen to me closely. Don’t blame yourself for this. It’s not your fault. You couldn’t have predicted this would happen.” She said softly. Suddenly, it started to rain, as if the heavens themselves were crying. “Daniel, don’t make the same mistake I did. Live your life so that you can die without any regrets. My only regret is that I couldn’t tell you that….I….” She suddenly stopped, and with that, I felt her heart stop beating. “No…no….AYUMI!” I cried as the tears ran down my face. I buried my head in her chest and continued to cry for what seemed like an eternity.

The report came the next morning. To my relief, they were able to jump-start Ayumi's heart, but she would probably never speak again. She had fallen into a deep coma, one which she would probably never wake up from. I just couldn’t take it anymore. Mafia and organized crime rings were tearing peoples live apart, as well as mine. The next day, an ad went out in the papers: Looking for members to join a group formed to fight against the recent surge in Mafia and organized crime activity. Join Delta Plus today.
