• Chapter One
I awoke to new surroundings. There were pitch black walls and no windows. Even the door was painted in the same black paint as the walls. The room was huge. It was probably bigger then my whole apartment put together. I thought it might be a studio but there was no kitchen. I was laying on a California king sized bed that was decorated with silk sheets, an ornate comforter and at least ten matching decorative pillows. Across from the bed was a wall of bookshelves filled with books. Thousands of books. Hidden off in a corner somebody had placed a small television on a desk with what looked to be a video game consul. It was oddly placed and did not go with the décor of the room one bit. The thought finally occurred to me, somebody had placed the wretched thing in the room for me. They probably thought I would appreciate it. I clamored off of the bed to find somebody, to find out what was going on, and that is when I found out that I was wearing different clothing. I was attired in a crimson Victorian era ball gown that was lined with velvet and silk. It was gorgeous but it made me wonder how and why it got put on me. It took a few moments for me to notice that I had a corset on instead of my usual black bra. I was beginning to worry more than usual.
Slowly I walked over to the television, I was trying to get used to full length skirts, and turned it on. I flipped through the channels until I got to the news. That would help to find out where I was. Being I was dressed in long sleeves I certainly couldn’t be in Arizona any longer, because it was summer. Channel three news began playing their good morning Arizona theme, spinning me into a world of great confusion. “Good morning Arizona! Unfortunately we have a sad story to report today. Fifteen year old Nina Verosa was reported missing this morning and some of her blood was found on the front porch. If you catch sight of her please contact the police immediately.” A picture of me flashed across the screen. Quickly I turned off the TV and ran for the door. I flung it open and ran right into the man that I thought had been a gentleman. I stepped back from him in fear and had tears welling up in my eyes. How could this be? How could, in an effort to protect my sister, I get kidnapped? It just didn’t make sense.

The man grabbed me by the wrist and pulled me up into his arms. He carried me back over to the bed bridal style. Many thoughts flashed through my head during this time and all of them ended with my death. For some odd reason he let out a chuckle and sat me down. A white gloved hand came up and wiped the tears from my eyes. “Princess you shouldn’t cry or fear so much. It is better that we took you then anyone else,” His words didn’t make sense and I absolutely did not like being called princess,” You are in good hands. We will handle the situation with the media and don’t worry about us killing you. You are already dead.” His words rang through my ears. They echoed over and over again, never ceasing. What was this madness I couldn’t be dead. It was impossible. I was breathing. I was speaking. I was thinking. How could I be dead?

“You seem confused, my princess,” He stated as if it wasn’t obvious. “You stated last night that vampires didn’t exist, but that is where you were wrong. We do exist and you are now one of them. We were only going to hunt and kill that night but your views and attitude was too much for us to pass up the opportunity to have a new vampire in our small group.” He got up from the bed and strode over to the bookshelf. There he pulled down a large book and brought it back over to the bed. “I hope you like reading because this has all the information about vampires you could possibly need to know. We have changed your clothes for the time being. If you do not like being a Victorian doll then tell us and we will find a way to buy you modern clothes. To us you are a princess so your wish is our command. Please enjoy the TV and the ps2.” He turned as if to leave the room.

I wasn’t sure if I should say anything but in the end I decided to,” You can take the TV back; I don’t play video games or watch it. I am a book person. About the clothes, they are wonderful but would you mind if I took scissors to them and modernized them a bit? That way they could suit my style and yours.”

He turned to face me,” As you wish Milady. The scissors are in the drawer with some other sewing supplies. The clothes you were brought here in are also in the closet if you need them. Please come to the room two doors down and show me your outfit once you are done. I am intrigued to see what you are thinking.” He grabbed the TV and left.

I stood from the bed and made my way over to the closet. Inside were hundreds more dresses and hidden way back in the corner was my clothing. I stepped into the huge walking and grabbed my stuff and changed. I decided to leave the corset on then get help getting it off, and just threw my t-shirt over it. I then took my favorite of the dresses and went over to the desk. I think I worked on it for a good two hours before having the perfect classic Lolita dress. Quickly I changed into the dress and went back over to the bed. I grabbed the book and made my way over to a big comfy burgundy reading chair and cracked it open.

For those of you who don’t know what Lolita fashion is, it is a modernized Victorian era style that has been brought up in Japan. It involves poufy knee length skirts with trouser socks and heels. The whole idea is to look like a porcelain doll or a child. There are many different types of Lolita but the one I had been wearing was a gothic Lolita which focuses more on the darker themes of life.

The book was quite interesting and focused a lot on all the bad that falls upon vampires. There was simple stuff like how they can’t go into the sunlight or how they will die if burned or killed with a silver sword. It was quite interesting to find out that a ton of vampires were killed during the Salem witch trials and charged with witchcraft. I finished the first half of the book quite quickly and then decided to take a break and show my dress.
