• When joining the army the new recruit is given the army's uniform, along with the weapons issued. First, there was a customizable handgun, with barrels coming in three different lengths, to be used accordingly in response to the situation's demands. Second came the machete, to clear thick foliage on the march, along with combat daggers. Once the recruit grew into a hardened soldier who remembered the face of his father and had risen into certain ranks, they were given a machine gun and sniper rifle respectively (both customizable), along with a ceremonial sword to go with the dress uniform. Finally, there was the double swords.

The double swords, the katana and wakizashi, came with the initiates' package and have always been together since time immemorial. They are synonimous with desertion and shame; if a soldier deserted, they were to leave all weapons behind save the double swords. To see all weapons sans the katana and wakizashi on the soldier's bed showcased a loud and silent message: this soldier has deserted, and cast off all personal honor. Despite the adjetives associated with the double swords, they were also a dispensation; caught in the wilds, the deserter would have a means of defense.

It is the year 3000; in the astral calendar it is the year of the Black Ogre. The capital has been moved to the White West and the Shogun's bakufu has long been reestablished in the Red East. It is a joint rule between the Descendant of the Sun Goddess and the military.

In the Year of the Black Ogre, Ronin are counted among the dregs of society, scorned even by the eta, the nameless people, even though many Ronin usually come from higher-ranking Castes in Earth.

Ronin. The term is synonimous with masterless samurai and college graduates in Examination Hell. In the year 3000, it has acquired a new identification: a soldier without purpose. Deserters, mercenaries, trainees who never made it to an army but completed the training...all these fall into the caste of Ronin and carry the Double Swords.

This story is about Ronin. However this group of Ronin had something that set them apart from all the others: these ronin abandoned their humanity and became demons. These are the ones called Shinsengumi, who claimed to be the spawn of demons.
