An employee of the Natural Resource Development Department of Tricell's African division. Ricardo Irving was rumoured to have been seen in Raccoon City during the outbreak in September 1998. The validity of this claim cannot be confirmed, however. Irving was chosen by Excella Gionne, CEO of Tricell Africa to secure additional funding for Tricell's numerous bioweapon research projects by acting as a black market dealer on B.O.W.s. His normal job was as the director of the Tricell Africa oil plant in the marshlands near the Kijuju Autonomous Zone, and he was one of the leading figures behind the administration of Las Plagas as a potential business opportunity for Tricell.
Fancying himself as a "businessman", Ricardo Irving was notable for being an unstable, yet calculating individual.
Irving was chosen to set a trap for the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance in Kijuju, as part of a field test for the new, refined Type 2 Plagas. The backdrop was a bioweapons deal involving the new Popokarimu B.O.W., to an unknown group confirmed to be American. After spreading Las Plagas throughout the population, Irving then went to the deal location and had the brainwashed Jill Valentine unleash a sample of the Uroboros virus as part of a trap against the B.S.A.A. Alpha Team dispatched to apprehend him. Alpha Team was quickly eliminated. However, Irving had not calculated that Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar would be able to survive, or that they would recover a hard drive containing data on the deal. Panicking, Irving went to the mining area and immediately set out to retrieve any sensitive documents linking Tricell to the recent outbreak in Kijuju. In the middle of doing so, he was confronted by Chris and Sheva, but was saved by Jill Valentine.
In an effort to eliminate the two, Irving sent the Popokarimu specimen that was scheduled to be used in the deal to kill them. His efforts were for naught, however, as Chris and Sheva triumphed over the creature. Angered, Irving was later spotted by the B.S.A.A. Delta Team, and dispatched an Ndesu into Kijuju to decimate them. This specimen was also subdued by Chris and Sheva despite heavy losses to Delta Team. The loss of these two valuable specimens further enraged Irving.
Planning to escape with the wealth he had accumulated, Irving was instead subdued by the brainwashed Jill Valentine, who handed him a vial containing a control Plaga variant. This was an act of punishment for his failure to eliminate the two B.S.A.A. agents. After confronting Chris and Sheva on his patrol boat following the destruction of the oil refinery, Irving's mental state caused him to inject himself with the Plaga, transforming him into a large sea monster. Despite his efforts, he was also defeated, and with his dying words, gave Chris and Sheva a new clue which allowed them to move on and uncover the secrets behind the incident.
Fun Fact:-Before the name Ricardo Irving was decided upon, the character went by the moniker of Kralin Osborne.
