Argamath's bugle startled even Ka'ia for a moment, the sudden sound ripping through the air--he'd been quick enough on the draw to catch the danger before his sibling had, and he'd responded the fastest way he knew how. Shy of betweening and risking a collision to intervene on their behalf directly, he'd just have to hope they reacted in time.

As much as Cartujanth was eager to continue fighting thread, Urzoh could feel the ache of their wounds. She could see the green's sides heave with the effort on trying to keep propelling forward. There'll be more thread for us to torch in a few Cart. The green would have ordinarily protested but the sting of thread on her shoulder had her biting her tongue. There wounds weren't too severe that a quick patch job wouldn't hold.

Urzoh's arms stung, mingling with sympathetic twinges from Cartujanth's shoulder. It was unsuprising that she missed the first firestone. She could only shrg and try to hide her extreme embarrassment at the the wingrider she could only imagine was scolding her. She took a deeper breath on her second pass, heaving with more power - success!

Patched injures had Cartujanth focusing sharply. She was nearly done her round, her injuries a dull throb under the healer's slathered poultice. With a bugle full of authority Cartujanth warned Palouseth. Eyes above! Don't get caught in that cluster! She hoped her quick warning and clear directions would serve her green sister well. Cartujanth crushed firestone as fast as her jaws would move, ready to torch the affronting thread to give Palouseth a clear exit.

If you’re a white or green whose adult size is smaller than 24’, you’ll find yourself struggling. You are blown right into a clump of thread. Damage: -5 HP.
Cartujanth's sharp warning snapped Palouseth from her pain-laced stupor. Tuela, though worried over the state of her straps, called coordinates quickly as the wind tried to buffet them into a clump looming over them. The pair snapped between quickly, reappearing in a safer space. Palouseth blew out a calming sigh, chomping down on firestone as she sent a wave of warm relief to Cartujanth. Thank you, Cartujanth.
Round 7 Rolls 1. +5 HP 2. -5 HP Negated by Wahokinth 3.
Dragon Injuries: Threadscore burns and holes in right wing sail, and open gash along shoulder. Large Threadscore burn along left flank. Single strand Threadscore on neck, behind where flight straps sit.
Rider Injuries: Scattered Threadscore patches on back where Thread managed to burrow past flight leathers.

For all of Uvaldoth's panicking, the damage wasn't nearly as bad as her dragon had assumed. Niselle's flight leathers had saved her from the bulk of the damage, although looking at them while the healers patched her up well enough to get back in the skies, she knew she'd likely have to replace them after this. The leather that covered her back was riddled with gaps and holes now, and while they'd still server her just fine for what little of the Threadfall remained, she wouldn't dare to use them in the future.
I'm alright, Uvaldoth. Healers say I can be back up in the sky by the time they're done patching up you.
And sure enough, by the time she was bandaged and back in her leathers, it was a simple enough feat to climb back into her straps and blink right back into the fray. And... Right into an enormous wind gust that sent Uvaldoth careening back towards another clump of thread. Thankfully, it seemed they had lucked out just a tiny bit - she spotted their twins in the skies right near them.

Wahokinth and K'niel had been so lost in their focus --- and in trying not to worry about their sisters --- that they hadn't even noticed that both had taken to the air again, at least until Uvaldoth called to her brother for help. Wheeling in her direction, Wahokinth turned such a sharp angle that it could have thrown K'niel were his equipment even a little faulty.
Fortunately it wasn't, and he reached his sister in time to flame away the thread she had nearly been blown into.
Uvaldoth, I've got you!
It was only after she was safe for the moment that Wahokinth noticed the sting of a series of small burns from hot ash that he had flown right through in his reckless attempt to get to his sister.

20. It's a bit of a mixed bag here. To start, your dragon bit his or her tongue while you were feeding them stone and now there's just a constant residual ache in both your mouths. While you've managed to spit flame at the Enemy and char it into dust, you clearly need to work on your firestone toss because you wrenched an arm muscle during your last throw. Ow. To make matters worse, you wound up missing a formation change, and almost had a mid-air collision with a fellow weyrling.
Oh, she could cry. She absolutely could. What started as a fantastic beginning was quickly spiralling out of control. Palouseth whined as she shook her head, spitting shards of firestone out as she tried to flex her tongue and assess the damage. The next spout of fire came with Tuela wrenching her arm near out of her sharding socket. And as they turned, Palouseth hwonked in surprise, as she wasn't sure if she were out of position -- or her sibling she nearly crashed into.

Niselle can feel the wave of gratitude radiating from Uvaldoth when their twins come to their rescue, flaming down the clump of Thread and giving them time to right themselves. Were they not in the air, she has no doubt that Hers would have stopped to nuzzle her brother - but the affection and comfort would have to wait until they were back on the ground and Thread was no longer falling.
But their terrible performance wasn't about to end anytime soon, it seemed.
No sooner had they righted themselves in the air and Niselle had gone to feed Uvaldoth firestone did she feel the echo of her dragon's pain as she bit her tongue - yelping at the sudden sting. And for all that her own firestone tosses had been successful thus far, the next time she was flagged down, she over-exerted herself making sure the bag got to the wingrider and wrenched a muscle in her shoulder. A stupid mistake - she'd overcompensated with most of her back gone numb.
And as if all that heaping up weren't bad enough, she managed to miss the signal for a formation change. It was only pure luck and quick reflexes that saved them from colliding with Argamath.

4. You're suddenly having a moment of panic. This is real. This is too real. You are now face-to-face with the deadly menace that has killed so many. The silver strands wind and twist and reach out for you, and you suddenly find yourself filled with doubt and worry. Can you do this? Why are you up here? What about all those that failed? How can you do this for the rest of your life -- a life that could well be cut short!?! Thankfully, while you are having a moments panic, your dragon seems to know what to do--especially when the lurch to the side and dive to flame down a few patches of Thread. While this doesn't really calm you, and you're still sweating bullets beneath that helmet, you do begin to focus more on sweeping up the Thread.[If your roll this five times or more throughout the course of the game, your Panic will get the best of you and you will panic yourself as you jump Between. You may choose to 1. die and be lost forever 2. appear from Between way off course and take Major Damage -12 HP by jumping right in a nasty clump that you weren't even supposed to be near or 3. appear from Between way off course right in your fellows airspace. Quote a weyrling and give them Major Damage -12 HP for flaming them or startling them into a patch. You in trouble now. Encouragement has no effect on this outcome or counter though you can be saved from damage.]
Even as Wahokinth and K'niel fought to calm down from Uvaldoth having another near miss, the weight of it all began to creep on K'niel's mind. Both of their sisters were hurt, and they'd only managed to step in and help once. Once, and had gotten hurt doing so, and---
What, exactly, were doing? Sure, both Uvaldoth and Niselle were still in the air so it wasn't that bad, but it could have been. It could have been, and it could be again, and the thought of life without his twin in it sent a cold chill running down K'niel's back, the focus he'd been trying to hold onto scattering to the wind as he realized just how close he could have come to just that.
Mine! You said to focus; we focus! Wahokinth's voice cut across the fear even as he dove sharply to flame some thread that was well below their current height. The call and the dive snapped K'niel out of it, and he shook the fear off as best he could.
He'd just... make sure and check on Niselle later. And maybe make extra sure she was alright, too.

He'd hesitated and not trusted his instincts the last time he'd doubted one of V'res' orders - and it had resulted in injured Weyrlings. D'rok didn't hesitate to make his own this time, only having to learn the lesson once to know his instincts were at least somewhat good.
Sure, it wouldn't be that way every time, but....
Having faith in your own calls is half of leadership, D'rok. Khazariath would support him to the end of time, after all.

Another botched firestone throw... and another angry wingrider. La'hisen didn't know where this was going wrong for him, but it seemed that a lot of extra practice was going to be in order.....
