The Ancient Egg was quick to notice Jelric. Ah, yes, greetings. It was proper that he had come to visit them first. They were the most important, naturally. Clearly this one was a human of good taste. Ancient appreciated such things. As the egg greeted the candidate there was the overwhelming scent of dust in the air. So, what did Jelric appreciate? Ancient was curious to know about their new, if temporary, companion. Things could be frightfully droll here day after day.

Jelric had touched dragon eggs before, had felt the whispering of words and feelings of hatchlings. He had been told that the whers did not share that dragon ability so strongly so was surprised at the similar yet so very different mind reaching out. The phantom smell of dust that had not existed before tickled his nose, the man sniffing a few times to hold in a sneeze. If the wher inside was as strong physically as it was mentally then a fine beast would hatch from this shell.

What did he appreciate? Hard work, worthy goals, and a true friend. If Ancient was bored here, maybe one day they would leave together to travel Pern. Well, that was if it was male. The greens of the clutch would be expected to stay, but that wasn't always the rule.

Jelric wanted to be hopeful that there was at least one here he might be able to bond with, but this was only the first one. He couldn't tell just yet if it was a lucky pick or that he might be more suited to whers, the only way to find out was to try another. He had noticed one of the girls had meekly moved away from Dyad Egg, the biggest egg of the clutch. Surely it couldn't be that bad.

Another candidate was let into the swirling mass that was Dyad's thoughts. They had tried to get back into their rhythm, but after the last interruption it was easy to throw the egg off once again. What did they want now? Dyad barely seemed to even register that Jelric wasn't the same person as before. Just how many interruptions would they have to put up with today? Well? Spit it out, they didn't have all day. There was important thinking to be done. Surely they at least had a worthwhile reason for interrupting them?

Thasne wasn't exactly forthcoming with the egg either. Her hand on the red shell didn't mean she was especially open. It wasn't that the woman was consciously trying to keep herself apart from the wher, this method of communication just didn't come naturally to her. A dragon could possibly bridge the gap and be more involved, but as it was the egg only received simple answers to their questions. She was fine. Thank you for asking. It was an odd sensation to get an insight into another being's mind just from touching something and Thasne wasn't entirely sure she liked the idea of it going the other way.

Slowly the miner drew her hand away from the shell. Would they all feel that way? For a moment Thasne looked at her hand, still crouched in front of Blood as though she would be able to figure something out. Clearly not receiving an answer, the woman moved on to another egg. They were of similar size. Perhaps a bit smaller? Being buried in the sand meant that it was somewhat difficult for her to tell really. Kneeling beside the teal egg, Thasne reached out and carefully touched the shell of The Water Egg. Once again trying to hold the image of 'hello' in her mind.

Now he understood what had turned the girl away, this one was a bit standoffish. The problem with Dyad was that it was so engrosed with it's own business it was failing to realize what was happening around it. Did it even notice the movement going on around it was different tonight? It didn't have to respond, but it would not have new things to think about if it only looked in and not out.

Leaving Dyad to think about that, it would be good to move on. No one had approached Grave egg yet either, though it did kind of look like a rock. He did not want to think Mezask was that silly to mistake a rough shaped stone for being one of her clutch and try to warm it.

Grave doesn't respond when their shell is touched. They aren't absorbed in anything. They don't seem to be ignoring him. They just don't react. In much the way that the rock that Jelric thought they looked like wouldn't. Were it not that the texture of their shell was assuredly that of a wher egg, it was seem that they were a rock. The thrum of thought that ran through their siblings was missing, and even the shell itself felt cooler than the others.

Silence. Dud eggs weren't unheard of, even dragon eggs failed to hatch sometimes. If there was something inside it might be too weak to communicate let alone hatch. A shame really, but they wouldn't know for certain until the day. Since there was nothing to dwell on here best move on. There weren't many others he thought might contain what he hoped for, but would Mezask think it rude or cowardice to withdraw early? Better pick a different egg that was free, there was no harm in staying a little bit longer. Despite finding it's colour foreboding, Blood Egg was a good and healthy size. What did this one think of the rucus?

The Blood Egg seemed to almost vibrate with delight when Jelric touched it. Greetings. Pleasure to meet you. What did Blood think? Well they quite enjoyed it. Some fresh company was long overdue in their opinion. Blood was thrilled to have all these new individuals coming by. Invigorated by it one might say. Was Jelric not the same? It was quite alright if he wasn't, not everyone liked big gatherings after all, and there was a lot of value to be had in more intimate settings.

Still not certain about this whole visitors thing, Water held back when Thasne touched their shell. They could sense the discomfort at communicating in a new way, and in some way that made them feel better about the whole thing. It was nice to come across someone else who was unsure. Of course it was clear this one was also determined like the last in the grand scheme of things. So maybe they weren't so similar after all. The Water Egg drifted on the edge of Thasne's awareness, not quite confident enough to take that next step forward and greet her, but not recoiling either.
