The time has come and the Weyr's wher pack are showing signs that they might be willing to mate soon. As there are usually several turns in between wher clutches, sometimes even more than a decade, this is a pretty big deal in the Weyr. The last clutch at Fort was before the Dragon plague. As such messages are being sent out to desirable male pairs across the Northern continent. Fort intends to keep their latest clutch of whers, and as such they want their females to have top pick of possible mates.
As explained in the Wher Guide, wher runs are not sudden. The pack will engage in a variety of courtship behaviours, assessing their potential suitors. Subordinate females will run before the dominant females, giving the males plenty of time to show off their skills. Wher females are notoriously picky about their mates, using the opinions of her packsisters to make her choice. Although only the most dominant females are likely to successfully clutch, it is not unheard of for lower ranking females to bear eggs of their own. Often the pack will raise an entire mating period's eggs together. Whers seem to show no preference among the eggs, treating the lead female's eggs and pups with as much care and affection as those of the lowest ranking female.
Fort Weyr's size and resources means that they are able to support a superpack of whers. At it's maximum this pack contained two dozen whers. The pack has supported multiple golds, even at the same time. Throughout it's history the Fort pack has been led by both golds and greens. The current pack matriarch is a green. Although a single pack, the whers will often split into smaller groups, and there are several dens throughout the Weyr to reduce conflict. Whers are organised by the Weyr's Whermaster. This is the most senior wherhandler in the Weyr, but they are not necessarily bonded to the most dominant wher.
Fort Weyr also has several male whers. Although due to the nature of whers, these males live outside the Weyr-proper. Often in the surrounding farms, settlements, and hills. Providing an impressive coverage of whers.
Now what does this all have to do with an event you may ask? Well, you may have noticed that EWSW is a little short on whers, and we've decided it's time to change that. So we are opening the Wher Love event. This event will run from February 14th to March 13th, and will provide people the opportunity to get a wher of their very own.
Rules
- Until Saturday 14th March your character will not require a full profile to be used in threads.
- At the end of the event you will be allowed to apply a 400 mark discount to the purchase of 1 wher from the marks shop, to create your wher.
- For each IC post in the guild you have made with that wherhandler pair, they will gain a 1 mark discount to the purchase of a wher in the marks shop.
- Once the event is over characters will need a complete profile before being used in play.
- Fill out the basic profile to enter a wher.
- Max two whers per player for the time being
- Each Handler can only have one wher
- Whers may be any colour
- All female whers must be permanent residents of Fort Weyr and part of the Fort Weyr pack. Their role and position in the pack is up to you.
- Male whers may be residents of Fort Weyr, meaning they live in the Fort Weyr territory, but not the Weyr itself, or visitors from other locations specifically for the mating period.
- Eggs could potentially come from any female run, but are not guaranteed to come from every run.
- The matriarch of the Fort Weyr pack and the Fort Weyr Whermaster will be available through a contest released during this event.
